93 Mazda Miata paint correction, Megs VS. Mothers

I have just started using a lot of Mothers products. I really like some of them. I use both products you used and if I need more cut, I use their ribbon compound. I just did an 02 Mustang using only Mothers products. I posted it on another forum. I will have to put it up here as well I guess.
What is ribbon compound? I just ordered their next aggressive compound yesterday (Professional Rubbing Compound) I wonder how it cuts and finishes compared to 105...

OOh, and excellent work!
Thanks.

Lol! Darn Android auto correct! I meant rubbing compound. The same stuff you just ordered. I like it. If you look at the post I just made about the 02 Mustang GT, you will see a couple of pics after compound and IPA.

Lol..Yeah those shots and the entire GT looks great!! I'm excited to get to work with it.

Thanks. I think you will like it. I would send you some, but you already ordered it.

THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. HOLY CRAP. those swirl marks! great great great work!!!

Great work and thanks for taking the time to do the review.

awesome job! we have a red 93 miata(project car) as well. how did you get the rims so clean?!?!?! i've tired almost everything on them (except wheel brightner) and can not get them as clean as you got them! i think the rims on ours might be beyond fixable. great job on the body!

Amazing work . i vote u need to road trip to MD and show me a thing or 2 haha seriously though great work!

great job dave always good to try out new products here and there. i have been using my DA more than my rotary but im actually getting tired of the DA for the fact that it takes alot longer to correct than my rotary.

I hope he got you a case of beer or something

another great save Dave

Cool thread.
Excellent results.
Awesome presentation :props:

Mothers Foam Pad Polish works a lot like the Machine Glaze in that is has a very long working cycle, however it was smooth running and not at all grabby against the paint like the Machine Glaze was. It finished down super glossy on this particular paint system (very soft single stage paint) and was also a zero dusting product. I will continue to use it on other jobs.

I have been looking for this thread for a while now. Seems that every time that I put forth the effort to find it, I find something interesting in your thread history that takes me away from my search.

Anyhoo, are you still using this product? I was on a DA tangent for a while, but decided that I'm going to get back to finishing out on the rotary once again, rather than cutting with the 9227/finishing with the DA.

Forest had sent me a large bottle of this product, and I never got around to using it. I sent it to Dad07 earlier in the year since I thought he would get some use out of it before I did. Heck, I toted it around for months w/o cracking the cap open.
I've done a couple handfuls of exterior only, 7336, OTC products in the past 4 weeks as I'm not home right now. Kinda feels good to go back to the roots.

Having been spoiled by the use Dr.G's non-to-low dusting products on the rotary, I was wondering if this would be an ideal candidate?

Mainly due to price and availability~ $30 OTC.
Mostly for fun/time killer on white Freightliner and red Volvo paint. BC/CC. Hard paints. Mainly one step polishing and the DP sealant I got on BOGO months ago. Surely there will be those that will need compounding first. Cross that bridge when I get to it.

If you think about it, tell "Dad" and "Colt" I said "hi".

I do think it's a nice product but to answer your question, no I'm not still using it. Believe it or not, the reason I'm not using the Mothers professional line anymore is "the cap breaks off the bottle just a few uses into a bottle" and I find it quite annoying when that happens.

Just like Collinite's stupid pill bottle cap on their #845 Insulator Wax. You wear that stuff a few times while shaking the bottle to liquefy the wax and you tend to get annoyed by it. The last time the #845 cap came off while I was shaking the bottle, not only did I wear the stuff but a big blob of it went right in my ear.:nomore:

I'll give my boy Colt a pat on the head for you and tell Dad that you asked about him and said Hi..:xyxthumbs:

I had the weekend to think about it...20 hrs or so of rain:cry:

Like the no dust aspect, availability/cost, but in retrospect it's probably too light for heavily pole brushed hard CC.

Guess it will be Megs or 3M.

Vegas - if you ant a 2 step program, try our Rubbing Compound and then the Foam Pad Polish. That's a program with low/no dusting that works well.

Tusc Dave - I hear ya on the cap breaking off., We've changed to pull caps from flip and strengthened the bottle top.

That's great Forrest!!

I really do like the products for what I typically work on at my shop. I have a local paint supply (R.C. Cook) here in the Harrisburg PA area that carries the Mothers Professional line, hopefully they have new stock with the new caps. I'll have to pick some up when I get over that way.

That's the problem. Not looking to do "real" correction that the yard washers are gonna remove when least expected. The low dusting, high gloss aspect fits the bill especially on the acreage of these panels and the fact that the rotary will be overhead or in my face much of the time.
The DP sealant will fill much of what's not corrected.
On second thought, I'll revisit this product. Going to Charlotte in the AM anyway...this is a for "fun" project.

+1.

Hey VT I still have that bottle you sent me....would you like some of it back? Lol

At the time I was into figuring out my "new" processes, and new market. I did not take time to play with the product. When I saw you posting and reviewing their products, I figured it would compliment your process. I didn't want to take Forest's kindness for granted so I PIF.

Thanks for the offer, but I will pick up a bottle after Dr. app't.

EDIT: What's with all the rain down here? Kinda feeling like Noah.
