Not the typical car you get called for. 1994 Supercharged Ford Thunderbird. Custom interior with a 1 year old full repaint on the exterior. Owner is a big time Ford enthusiast prepping this car for a long ride to Kentucky for a Ford Supercar event. I was happy to rise to the occasion.

I had given the car a prior inspection, and it was pretty swirled up So I knew what I was in for. I mean this car was big. They dont make them like this anymore. We booked a 2 step correction and I put aside 2 days on the schedule.

Started with the usual wash / decon / clay bar routine. Was kind of in a rush as the sun was going down so no photos.

In the morning I started by taking some paint measurements (plenty of clear on the car) and taping up all the trim

Closed the garage, turned on the LED lights, and turned off the fluros. I could see it was gonna be a long day.

The hood before

And up close

Compound of choice on the day was Meguiars M100

Hood was first gone over with

Makita 9227c + 3m waffle foam + M100

The remainder of the car, along with a second pass on the hood, was done with

Flex 3401 + Megs MF pads + M100
Griots + Megs MF pads + M100

Finishing work:

Flex / Griots + LC White + Menz Power Finish

Results as follows....

We'll start with just the hood

Before

After

Passenger door

This spot

This one too

Trunk lid

After the 2 step correction, vehicle was given a quick wash to remove all the dust. A coat of Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant was then applied

Even application as shown

The swipe test after a long battle

Buffed off the sealant and took in the wow factor

nice work, amazing how an older car can come back to life with a steady hand

Beautiful work you achieved. You brought that paint back to life. I am sure the owner was excited. Thanks for posting and sharing.

You think this car is big?

Lol

Try detailing a 15 passenger van.

Nice work :thumbup::thumbup:

Really nice job. Car looked great after you did your 2 step deal.

NO "custom interior" shots?!
'

Since I didn't do anything to the interior, no custom interior photos. Sorry. Basically the seats were re-done in leather within last few years and the owners wife embroidered the thunderbird logo in place. Done pretty well actually.

I would have liked to see the blower, but aside from that, awesome job!

Great job bud. Wow you got good results pairing the Flex3401 with Meguiar's MF pads? I haven't tried it yet because I heard from many detailers over here that it doesn't work great with the Flex. Any thoughts?

I personally know the owner of that Thunderbird. He has another one that puts down 475rwhp out of the same V6.
BTW nice job on correcting the paint.

Yes! He mentioned he had another beast. Small world. And certainly appreciate the pat on the back

done plenty of corrections with the flex and megs mf pads. lighten up your speed and pressure a bit towards the end of the buffing cycle (this is good technique with any SMAT polish from what I've found). This will make a little less cleanup in your finishing step. From what I've read, this is everyones issue with flex + mf pads, that it doesn't finish all that well. No arguing it cuts well though. Adjust your technique a bit and you're good to go.

Great work, as usual!

The swipe test angry face is priceless. Don't mind if I use it in a future Show and Shine ;)

Small blower. Stock'ish. Eaton M90 S-Port. Engine makes about 310 rwhp last time we checked. It is only a daily driver after all.

Hey Ken, how are you!? Missed you at the Shoot Out again. The car looks better than I could possibly imagine. I know you probably remember the original paint job, well we deepened the color with this last one and the detailing brought out the "blackcherry" in the new paint.

I really can't wait to see what Bryan can do when I give him a shot at the other car next spring. We're looking forward to seeing what he does with the pearl white!
