Hey guys, I recently did a job for a friend on his 1989 GTR Skyline. I did a 95% correction, as in most swirls, imperfections removed leaving only deeper ones behind due to older/thinning paint.

It consisted of:

Wash x2,
M105,
M205,
1 layer Nxt 2.0 Wax,
1 coat Spray wax/deatailer
Wheels Dressed
Aluminum wheel lips/dish polished.
Exhaust etc. Polished.

Took around 8 Hours and I was thinking $150 was a fair trade off?

What do you guys think?

Here's The Photos.
P.S Sorry for the lack of lighting and crud camera.

The car really did have a dramatic change around, was so wet and glossy. !

thanks for your opinions!

Jay!

$150 sounds like a good deal for all that work. That's a good buddy price I think. Now he just needs to wash it correctly to keep the swirls away lol.

Yeah $150 sounds like a decent price. This of course depends on how close a friend he is...

Aww man, what a nice clean Skyline, not overly done which I like.

Makes me want to move to NZ to own one :D

- I've told him that he can either bring it to me for cheap washing, just because i wish to see it stay immaculate lol.!
Thanks for your reply.

If only there was sunshine and i had a better camera, would $150 be a 'buddy price' ? Obviously USA and NZ markets are different, but what would a job of say 8 hours to 90-95% correction be in the states? Thanks for your reply :)

Yeah, it is totally clean, to be honest, it's immaculate! The scary thing is, my friend is only 17 and has his last year of high school to go! - totally just became the coolest cat in the school carpark hahah. Thanks for your comment!

Regards to all, Jay

All markets are different. A lot of folks price their work according to what the guy up the street is charging. That doesn't work for me because there are no detailers in my area that are doing the same quality work as I do so I get what I need to operate or send them up the street to the guy with the quick service. I always hand them a card or tell them to keep my number just in case the car needs to be fixed from what the other guy does to the car. This usually gets their attention so I can fully explain what I do and why my prices are higher than most other detailers. If they can't agree to my prices then they are simply not the market I work for.

Having said all that, I would have charged $400 for an 8 hour paint correction.

Hard to price out a job when it is for your friend, but if you feel comfortable charging $150 then thats what matters,

A paint correction for 150 seems low but again its for a friend. As Tuscarora Dave said for a client that isnt a friend (or someone I am giving a special deal for) 400 seems more appropriate.

$150 for a friend isn't bad, especially if he pitched in here and there.

I've charged $450 for cars with that level of correction needed, and took about 8-9 hours.

I would charge $400 for 8 hours worth of work. Being that it was a friend I might give him a bit of a deal on it, but all my friends understand that I detail to pay my bills, so they aren't going to get a good job for nothing.

$150 is a really good price for a friend even with that work. I would of done $200 but as long as you feel that's a fair price for your work then that's all that matters.

Nice job by the way.

As an earlier poster said I wish I can live somewhere where owning a car like that can be legal to drive on the roads :(

Im not a 'professional' detailer as such so i couldnt justify my self to charge the $400 for the detailer (just a weekender at home). I Knew i was giving him a good deal, but his friends seeing the results and his dad are now giving me calls to do there rides etc. Thanks for the input!

wow I got competition haha!

^^^ Hahahahaha, no way mate, your results and effort completely outmatched mine! I actually looked at your thread before i started the job to see what i could expect :D :D
I wanted to go the full monty and go to the extent which you did (engine area, lights, the extra little things) but my friend was only willing to pay what he was going to so i had to LIMIT my self, despite me wanting to do more haha.

Thanks for your input mate!

$400 seems to be the median. Again, im happy with atleast $150 (hard to get people to realise e.g. $400 to make there 40,000 car looking great again, what's $400 compared to $40,000). Thanks for your input!

He didn't pitch in at all, left me too it haha. Thanks for your input :)

thanks for all the replys

Thanks for your reply! - im only doing it to get a little bit of spending money together before University begins! - again, you do it for a living therefor have a business, people can expect workmanship. A kid off the street has a little less credibility to start with :)

Thanks mate! He was super happy with it! Wish i could have spent another 8 hours on it to be honest ! :D. Are there emission laws not allowing the use of it in the USA? In NZ, you can still import cars older individually, just not through a dealer i believe?

Thanks for your reply! - im only

rhd drive, emission test, safety test.. there's a couple of thing actually. And obviously they do it to protect their own local market.
