This is my first "all over" wet sand, have done parts of the car but not the whole thing.

This ia a buddies car, it will be a Berger clone when done he has the Fikse FM 5's for it also. This is what the car will look like when done.........

Car has fresh paint with 3 coats of clear, orange peel was fairly bad all over the car with some trash.

This will not be a show car but a daily driver that see's some road course duty.

I explained to him that if we remove all the orange peel aka "slick" it would be more likely to damage the paint(scratches etc). Orange peel is like a truck bed coating in a sense as it acts as a paint protector in a lot of ways.

Yes cars look killer slicked out, this car will look killer when done and have plenty of clear left for future correction.

I wish I would have taken more before photos of the runs and bad orange peel spots, can't seem to get in the habit of that.

We wet sanded by hand with 2000 paper. I used PC 7424XP with LC CCS orange pad with M105 then M205. I tried a Surbuff pad on the hood but it packed up quickly and will stay with the orange LC CCS pads.

Here it is on it's maiden voyage after reassembly.

Looks great. Nice lift. One day I'd like to have a similar one.

For wet sanding are you using sanding blocks with paper, just paper or some other method?

I can't edit my first post to add pics??

Anyway, here is the finished product, gave it a good wash after I was done and a so so dry off, no wax as it has to out gas for 30 days.

What would you guys charge for something like this? I charge $300-$400 for a full correction and detail.

What I learned:

This was a buddy of mine, no charge for this. I almost begged him to go 2000, 2500, 3000 and he didnt want to so it was only sanded with 2000....he just wanted it to "look better". The anal person I am....that was out the window early on.

As a result of that I worked my ASS OFF to remove the scratches from the 2000 paper, never make that mistake again.

Runs in clear are not so bad, take your time and move slowly with low pressure and let the paper do the work.

The satisfaction of backing this car into the sun was up there, for me anyway.....seeing my buddy with his jaw hung open was well worth the effort.Im the MAN

I welcome all criticism, somebody has already had the hurdles I just jumped over WAAAY behind them.

The hugger orange looks great on this car, and the rims are the only "perfect" wheel for a 4th gen Camaro IMO. You did nice work and I am sure your buddy is elated with the results.

This is my first "all over" wet sand, have done parts of the car but not the whole thing.

It's a daunting task. Just how HUGE a project it really is sinks in the moment after you sand the first section.

Just goes to show that with enough patience you can remove sanding marks with good old reliable Porter Cable dual action polisher.

Good job!

Superb! I am tackling a similar task this weekend. Gives me some confidence.

Bigass job mate .

What was the paint used & how long it took you to wet sand .

Not sure on the paint, I will ask him.

Took two of us a FULL day to wash/strip, tape and sand the entire car. If I had to do it over again I would have taken more time sanding....and will in the future as this highly influences the end product. I would have went at least from 2000 to 3000 paper sanding.

Sand paper. water and labor is cheap compared to the product you use trying to get it like you want it buffing it.
