Not directly detailed related, but a business side question as I'm mostly clueless about the business side of running a business lol. I'm designing a tri-fold brochure and am curious about the legality of including an image of a product I use and putting the companies logo. I emailed them directly about a week ago asking, but have yet to hear anything back. I have some Cquartz brochures I ordered from Corey and love them. I'll be handing those to potential customers, but I'll also be offering a different coating and would like to make my own brochures advertising it since the company that makes it doesn't have any printed literature I can order to pass out. I don't know the legalities of this though.

I Googled this, but I'm not sure exactly how to word it so I found nothing.

To be on the safe side you want to have written permission. That said, I've seen a lot of people use logos for the products they use without permission and never get in any trouble.

When I worked for Meguiar's and ran the MeguiarsOnline.com detailing discussion forum I would get e-mails and PMs from people wanting to use the Meguiar's logo all the time and we had a protocol for this but offhand I forget what it was.

I'm sure one of our legal-minded forum members can chime in with the legal details and a more legally accurate recommendation.

Do a search on the websites of the companies you want to use the logos from. Most should have a page explaining how to use their logos. Usually it's just a few points on specifics of usage. I don't think any company will prevent you from using their logo if you are using or selling their products, after all you are promoting their business.

Most companies will not allow you to use their logos on your business cards. This makes sense because it would make it appear as if you were an employee of that company.

For brochures or decals I have never seen any company refuse usage so far but it's always best to check with them first.
