A full year later a new machine

Hello,

I purchased a new griots 6" polisher from auto geek on 6/7/11 the day after my birthday. [a gift from the lovely wife] Last week while using it on a 32' yacht, removing heavy oxidation with a wool pad it broke. Now mind you I am not the kind of guy who is particular about taking care of his stuff. I am more of a gotta get the job done at any cost kind of guy so I put my stuff through some pretty hard times. I sent an email to griots garage explaining what happened, sent them the broken unit and got my replacement today. Almost to the day a full year later. I am a customer for life. Thought I would pass this on.

It seems a lot of these GGs are breaking, but rarely do you see a post about a broken PC or Megs. Are the Griots less reliable than the others, or is it just more pros use Griots for their higher power rating so they see more abuse?

I am seeing a lot of these as well. My PC works fast and has no problems.
 
I have a PC 7346 as well as a rotary. I hate the rotary and the PC doesn't have nearly the guts that GG has. Although it's much lighter and easier to work with. The GG with the power cord is almost 8 lbs. The PC is only six with the cord. I throw in the cord because I'm on a ladder a lot with boat hulls and I can feel the weight of the cord. I also have the GG 3" RO. That one I won't even talk about.

Just depends on what you use it for...

At a car show I was at recently I was removing #3000 Grit Sanding Marks using a 3" Tangerine Hydro-Tech Pad. I posted pictures to my Facebook page...

I'm still using an original 7424 for my own cars. After a few years at failed attempts, I finally decided to learn the machine and put my mind to learning how to use it right and get great results. That was about a year ago and now its working great and gave me great results. I rarely use it above 5 and can't imagine how some people use the GG on 6. Maybe that's why it's burned a few pads around here. If it ever breaks, I'll probably get another PC
 
I don't do any damp sanding but good to know. I always thought that GG should make a long buffing pad kind of like a toilet paper roll without any toilet paper on it so you could get between all the grills and smaller parts of a car that you would never use an RO on. You would buff with the sides of the pad instead of the bottom. Just a thought. You may now tear apart my TP comment.

SSizzlin you asked me in my thread to let you know about the power of the GG orbital. Well after a couple of weeks of use I find it to be the same unit as before. Just following up.
