That my friend is a Thermador Car Cooler. Its like a 'ram air' style fan I guess. I have read in places that you can fill them with dry ice to keep things cooler. Its a neat accessory, although the Wife thinks not because it messes up her hair . . . ??? :dunno:

Firestone also made a similar style one too. Perhaps someone else here can share more information about them too.

Thank you for commenting Setec Astronomy. :props:

Aaryn I remembered that we have a big Bug meet here in Sweden called "Bug Run"

The site is in swedish but you can see pics and videos and they have a Magazine for every year. It's hold on a racetrack. A lot of people are here that has a passion for Bugs and VW and cars in general.

Here is a link to the last Bug Run :)

Bugrun.com >> Utstallningsvinnare jubileet 2018

Maybe a vacation to Sweden and Bug Run LOL

Wikipedia said it's an evaporative cooler--do you put water in yours? You learn something every day...to me it kind of looked like a helicopter rescue hoist.

I think you put dry ice in it and works as A/C

Haha, yeah it does kinda look like a helicopter winch. :props:

No, I haven't ever put anything in it. It sure is a conversation starter when its on the Bug though. You go somewhere that would take ten minutes driving a regular car, you need to set aside at least twenty in this. Everyone has a VW story . . . well at least they do down here.
