A HUGE fail of a detailing video

Hard to say. I don't think it was, but it might have been. I did not notice any scratches when he waxed the car nor did I see any rocks or anything of the sort on the pad... but video quality might not be good enough to see either.

It's steep hill. So a bucket will probably make it worse. But I'll give it a try. All the oil on the floor probably didn't help :D My brothers old car leaked a bunch of oil lol

" With that drive being concrete spend some time cleaning up the spot. One day (or several) when you have nothing to do. Oil-dri sprinked on the concrete and ground in with work boots works wonders. Then move up to degreasers and stiff brush. Eventually, move on to muriatic acid and power washer/15* tip."

DO NOT USE THIS ADVICE!!! Stay away from muriatic acid. It is bad stuff for u and ur driveway. At home depot they have something that u pour on the concrete and let it sit for a few hours until it turns to a talc. Then u broom it off and its that ez!!

I used muriatic acid to clean my garage. It worked awesome and I'm still living.

I normally would ignore a thread like this, but I just really would like to say my peace.

It bugs me when a bunch of guys on a forum see something then start commenting on it bashing it; would you say everything you say on here to his face? I am not agreeing with him by any means, but come on guys. Is this really the reputation you want to give AG forum? Do you think he would want to join this forum after reading this thread?

It's easy to bash; go look at the comments of any of Paul Dalton's vids, people bash him for using a sponge and blah blah blah.

In school, when you did something basic wrong (like an easy formula), did you teacher make fun of you?

Educate people, don't bash them. Want to get rid of hacks? Show them the basics of correct techniques, not make fun of them.

Sometimes I think some of the AG members are just too nice.
If he was doing this to his own car only... fine... teach the man and introduce him to AG.

However, I mentioned this before but this is different because he is getting paid for this. People are paying him their hard earned money... small or large that is not the point. He is potentially damaging other people's investments. Would you allow your doctor, lawyer, contractor, plumber and other professionals the same type of leniency toward their lack of knowledge in the field they are supposed to specialize in?

Don't upload a video to Youtube if you don't want criticism.

The problem is that people rely on YouTube to see "how to" videos. This is possibly one of the many that they could come across when searching detailing videos; this really bothers me.

There are plenty of hack contractors, the others are true professionals, because they are trained and licensed in a rigid system (ok, plumbers not so much, but they are still licensed). The lack of any kind of standardized training for detailers has been discussed many times.

This guy seems to be successful in his market. I'm not sure that "enlightening" him would help him with that market. Why don't you invite him to join our forum and we'll see if we can educate him?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I'm not sure who the "target" was for these videos...was he trying to help out other detailers (the how-to you suggest)? Or was he trying to sell new customers by demonstrating his knowledge and technique? Or did he just get a new camera and some software and wanted to make some videos?

In both the waxing and wheel cleaning videos he specifically wrote the words 'how to' in the notes/video info.

You see this all over YouTube, so I'm not sure why we are critiquing just his video, but if he or anyone doesn't like it then they could easily block the comments section or simply take it off YouTube.

I don't want to start an argument over this guy, but at least WE are all involved in an excellent informative place.

Group hug.

I guess with YouTube and social media, everyone can have their 15 minutes (or longer) of fame, whether they deserve it or not.

everyone has their own way of doing things, gotta do what works for you...

I agree with you regarding the bashing. It's human nature at work here, people do that, but it happen a heck of a lot less on this forum than anywhere else on the Internet. Would I say to his face that what he is doing is wrong? Yes I would. If a pro comes to me and I pay for his service I expect him to know at least a little bit what he should be doing. Only thing he does right in that video is the pre-wash.

Even though to this day I still don't understand why Paul uses sponges to wash cars... I guess if he is gonna do a 3 step correction like he usually does it makes no difference, but still...
