A little something extra for the customer

Be aware, MANY vendors sell counterfeit ones. Ebay is infested with counterfeits. Theres many ways to tell if they are legit, you can PM me for this. They last approximately 1 month and smells amazing. Also many vendors buy in massive quantities that when you end up buying some, they are usually really old stock.

I got mine from Amazon, so maybe I got old stock. :dunno: Either way, I've spent a lot of money on them. Hey, if you have a new one do you think you could send me one (I'd be happy to pay you) and then I can see if it was just old stock maybe that I had kept getting?

I give out can koozies with my logo on them....Who doesn't love a good can koozie to keep their favorite choice beverage cold?!?! Also it can turn into a good conversation starter at any event that can lead into potentially more business! Depending on how many u buy and where u get them... mine typically run $1.95 a piece

I also do paper floor mats but those are a few pennies a car....and I feel are necessary when moving cars in and out of our shop!

I am planning on ordering some cups with my logo on them, leaving them in the cup holder with a business card and maybe a pen. Something useful that they hopefully won't just throw in the trash..

I leave one of these to everyday customers and to my higher end clientele I include MF's with some QD and a quick lesson on how to properly wipe down there freshly detailed vehicle.

Works great and gets lots of referrals:xyxthumbs:

You have a point there. It would seem IMO unprofessional to clutter a customers car with advertisement material such as business cards etc.

If your work is top notch, they WILL remember you and come back.

Too true! What can work well is sometimes selling a care kit. For example with a CG kit. Buy a few on sale, mark it up, sell it with the car. Maybe only make $50 extra, but its better than spending money on small trinkets people may not like.

Here is what I do.

I went to Big Lots and got a bunch of white paper gift bags (4x6) that have the brown handles on them, then I have my daughter "decorate" them with paint/markers/stickers, then all the little things I find in the customers car (pens, coins, sunglasses) I put in this bag and leave it on the seat with a business card stapled to it. THEY HAVE GONE NUTS over these bags (specially the women) calling/emailing me asking me about them. They love that my daughter decorated them and that I found their glasses or things they had lost in their car months ago and forgot about. If any one would like a picture I would get one tomorrow and post it.

For the more particular clients I have given them either scent samples or QD samples and a MF towel. I get the tiny (2 or 4 oz)spray bottles from USP and hand them to the customers.

I've started giving samples of random products and telling them what they are used for. Depending on if I did the interior or exterior I might do a fragrance or some ONR or window cleaner. The bottles are 1 or 2oz (can't remember) perfume bottles I got off ebay for $1 each.

I only put a card in the car of new customers and a recycled thank you card. Most my customers as for cards after every services and I even had 1 customer who referred 9 new customers so I did a half off full paint correction for his Porsche.

In the past I've given the microfiber towel and bottle of QD

bottle of TD's tire shine

tub of TD's Pure Carnauba Wax Paste

I had a few cases of Tuscarora Dave's Pure Carnauba Wax Paste made up and labeled with my info on them. Customers loved the wax and it has brought me in more customers.

Into the future I'll probably have more tubs of the wax made up with smaller sized tins to make it a more cost effective gift with my info on them. The original tubs wire 16 ounce @ $10.80 each "my cost" so only the high rollers received them.

The formulator makes batches only, so If I can provide 100 tins that equal the volume of 1 batch of wax, they'll fill them and shrink down the label size to fit the smaller tins and toss the roll of labels in the case for me to cut to size and affix to the tubs back here.

I'll most likely do this again here in the near future. Some folks used the wax and some folks let it sit on a shelf in the garage. The way I see it, there's a possibility that someone will pick it up in the future, read the label and ask about it.

I've also thought about having key chain sized tire pressure gauges made up with my info on them and just slip one onto the keys of the customers that come through my shop. I always check and adjust "if needed" the proper tire pressure . The pressure gauge would be useful and say that "I care about my customers".

Lot of great idea's here, what does you walk around detail sheet consist of? asking all.

Idk, if you leave QD and a MF towel, then you have to explain to them everyythhinngg about it. Such as when to stop using it, how to maintain to clean so. Because the customer will just keep on using it without knowing that debri and chemicals that stay on the towel can/will affect the paint.

Hand written thank you card and nothing else.

The work speaks for itself. They will want your service again or not, no need to advertise when their reminder is looking at what they just paid for.

Very well said sir! Your 110% right.
Although I can't help but feel as if a little something like a small air freshener or a nice mf towel wouldn't be just like icing on the cake..
I love getting a little freebie any time no matter what it is. Its free! Ha.
And u said it no need to advertise it could come off a bit the wrong way maybe.

Ya an air freshener is a good idea. I just find taking the time to hand write something is more memorable but adding to that never hurts.

I think the referral cards are not only an amazing way to say thank you but even better to generate more business.

I don't have one myself. I was referring to one of the previous posts which does include a picture of their card.

There was a regular corner car wash near me years ago that would leave a cheapo MF towel with a couple of mints and a thank you card for first time customers......people loved it!
