A Newbie's Checklist - seeking advice

what (if anything) should I use to protect my head/tail lights?

all my stuff came in today :dblthumb2:. I have a couple final Q's before I begin work tomorrow,

The 5" backing plate on my PC seems to spin unevenly and has a bit of a wobble. Is this due to the dual action function or have I not installed it properly?

is it best to polish in sections or is it fine to cover the entire car before wiping it all off?

do I need to cover these areas with tape (not sure what they're called):

what size tape would you recommend?

is it safe to use the PC on uneven, angled or surfaces on which the pad does not completely cover the area that is being polished? (eg, the bottom of this bumper)?:

any other last-minute advice on things a newb may be bound to make mistakes on?

Cheers!

I use whatever painter's tape I have on hand. Even regular tape that you put on your clothes beforehand to reduce the adhesiveness will work. Since you polish section by section, when I do a one step, I just reuse the same tape for the next section. If you are doing multi steps then you probably should tape the whole car. For that panel in your pic, you should tape around the headlight too.

Can't remember if I said this but I practiced by putting on a glaze with a black pad so I could get the feel for the machine before I started polishing.

Don't forget to do a test spot on a section that is typical of the swirls you have on the car. If your process works there, then it will work on the car as a whole.
