I usually don't post stuff on forums, but I just can't help myself. I have been a guy that has neglected cars my entire life. Always had company cars and left my wife's car for someone else to do. A job change meant no more company cars but no more life on the road either. My journey started with buying some over the counter products and not being happy at all with the results. After some search I found the AutoGeek site. And you guys rock! (Thanks Mike). I know many of you are professionals, but your info is awesome for us weekend noobs out there.

After doing some research (way too many hours just for fun) I decided on tackling my first detail. I decided to get a PC7424xp and now I'm a complete junky. After much debate I decided to use the test spot approach for my detailing journey (least aggressive or complimented method first)

Got both HD speed and Hd Poxy for my first go. Simply from the ease of use standpoint.
I learned from you guys the correct way to fix paint chips and wet sand. Easier than I thought when you have the correct info.

HD Speed with LC CCS Orange pads-- just wow. I never knew that products like these were available. Unbelievably user friendly. Finished well on orange pads still. Long working time. Trim (noob) friendly.

Topped with 2 coats of HD poxy. It went on and off so easy I was really confused. Not by the product but by my past experience of obviously using 30x too much product. Gloss is really good and I am really suprised how well it finished out the black trim on the Volvo. There is a ton. It is an outside DD so I hope it can last through winter.

I got Sonax BDS in my last purchase to try to help me through the winter. Also got a great free jar of BF MIdnight carnuba for free. Although, I may keep that for my wife's car. Not sure about winter. Maybe spring application.

So what does it say that my second coat of poxy was not even done curing and I was already looking at my next purchase/ challenge.

Here are my next products:
Already purchased:
BF Crystal Seal (on they way lol) If I don't get the durability out of HD poxy to last a winter I can IPA wipe and seal with BF and top with Sonax BDS from last purchase.
Griot's best of show detailer. Have heard really good things about it and plan too try a 50/50 GBSD and Sonax BSD as a post wash drying aid. Yeah I am in full Geek mode.
BF interior detailer- figured it's a good option to try because I can hit the interior and leather seats in one pass.

Already thinking of Spring: (suggestions welcome)
Sonax 04-06 or Griot's Fast correcting cream
Topped with Mezerna Powerlock or Sonax PNS.
Anything else I should be thinking about?

Also with a Volvo XC70 having so much trim what is the best way to take care of it long term? Not those crappy products that rinse off after first rain.

Thanks to to all of you formers! I have truly enjoyed your insight.

Is there a list anywhere of forumers who have or do YouTube videos??

Welcome to AG. Glad your first experience went so well. Word of advice, don't be too confident with your wet sanding abilities that's how bad things happen.

Before you know it you'll have 6 polishers, a large cabinet full of compounds, polishes, misc detailing products. Another large cabinet full of microfiber towels and pads. lol And you'll definitely find yourself looking into ceramic coatings, if you haven't already.

I have both Sonax PNS and BSD. I wouldn't buy the PNS again. Not because it's a bad product. Just because I don't see the value, time wise. BSD lasts long enough and is detailer easy to use.

I think I would try one of the SIO2 coatings as a base after polishing. If I was to go in that direction. But, the PNS might play better with BSD. So, I don't know. I guess if all I had were the products you listed, I would definitely get a SIO2 coating before PNS. They're just so easy and, if you don't like it on your paint, they work great to coat wheels. Easy is a good way to start. Then go to more labor intensive products if you're not happy with the results.

I really like Sonax 04-06. I've had consistently good results with the way it works/finishes.

If you're looking for winter protection, and not wanting to go the coating route, look at FK 1000P.

Easy to use, durable, and a $17 can will last for decades!

Yeah. I was nervous as hell the first time I wet sanded. Blood pressure was probably through the roof. I really liked the idea of the ceramic coatings. But not confident in that yet. Thanks!!!

Thanks guys!!! I looked at the fk1000 but since my Volvo XC70 has as much black trim as an Chevy Avalanche I was looking for something that wouldnt stain trim. The Sio2 is an intriguing idea. I looked at it briefly. But I guess I wanted to try something with my new PC7424. Lol. Maybe have to revisit that. Any recommendations on the Sio2??

I for one thank you for taking the time to chime-in and share your experience.

I'm confident we have THOUSANDS of LURKERS that come to this forum, take-in the abundance of information and raise both their knowledge level and skill level to successfully detail their own cars as well as go on to detail other people's cars and yet they NEVER take the time to join this forum and give due credit where credit is due.

So thank you for taking the time to share your story.

Dip your toe into the coating world and snatch up some Gyeon CanCoat for next car.

Yes coating is a good idea cause in my experience poxy won’t last very long it looks good but it’s pretty weak couple weeks worth for me
