I'm using a homemade cocktail (mostly filtered distilled water and a little alcohol plus two more ingredients) as a QD. Just somthing to act as a quick cleaner. Is this acceptable or should there be something in the stuff to "feed" the finish? If this is ok I'd rather not purchase yet another product...

No offense intended, Killer... budget.

The alcohol is not good on your wax/sealant and will eventually strip away any protection that is on the paint. Good QD's can be found at your local parts store/Wal-Mart/Target, etc for just a few bucks. Anything would be better than what you are using now. For the low cost, QD products are a definate must-have an any detailing arsenal.

I think alot of people mix up their own concoctions of quick detailer. It'll probably depend on what your ingredients are as to if it is safe or effective.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but won't the alcohol remove any wax on the surface. I'm not sure what happens really if you use just a little of it.

It's 12 parts filtered distilled water and 1.5 parts alcohol (91% or more). If alcohol is out I'll have to find something else.

Thanks, thats something I needed to know.

Pat,

Do you have Big Lots in your area ?? Recently I visited one and found loads of QD'ers for 2.99 a bottle. Zymol Detail, Turtle Wax Platnium, and one other. Nothing wrong with a homemade concoction, but I also value time.

Thumbs up on the Big Lots, Killer. I'll check 'em out.

Thanks,
Pat
