A quick wash + a new camera = PICS

I recently got a new smart phone with a really good camera, my 10 year old flip phone finally bought the farm after a little splash of coffee got on it.

Anyhow, I finally got a chance to give the car a good wash ... a busy streak at work turned me a non-Autogeek for a few weeks ***GASP*** and the Camaro was more than a bit dirty. So, since I had a nice morning the supplies came out and the dirt and grime was washed away. Using Megs D-115 as a drying aid made it go smooth and easy. It also seemed to me that the PP365 was holding up pretty well also since there was no dragging or skipping across the surface while drying.

So I'm going to stop talking and just show the pics from my new camera:

Don, congrats on the new phone. I got exited to find out what camera you purchased so I'm a little disappointed. Anyway, the camera is secondary to proper exposure, composition and light. Google how to take good pictures of cars. You will notice that great pictures have few things in common - one is to never cut off part of the car when you are doing the whole vehicle.
 
10 years on a flip phone, that is impressive. Since 2001, I've only 6 phones. 4 flips and 2 iPhones. I miss the the simplicity of the flip phones. If you think your smart phone takes good pictures you would really like a DSLR. You can buy a good starter DSLR from Nikon, Sony or Canon for $400-500.

I like the headlamp photo. Would love to drive the new 2016 Camaro, that V6 is impressive. I really want to try new ZL1:)
 
What also may help is to take pictures about 1 hour after sunrise or two hours before sunset. Away from trees if you can. This will help with reflections from appearing in your photo. Black clean and shinny cars are tough to photograph anyway and not having any reflections from what's above may help. By shooting later in the day as I mentioned. There may also be an app that can help with the glare / reflection reduction. I too like the headlight shot. Pretty creative.
 
Congrats Don! I've been using my phone for a lot of pics lately. Especially when detailing. Can't see hauling my real gear, or even an expensive compact out there when my phone is in my pocket. Get's the job done and mine even shoots RAW.

I definitely have used my iPhone 6s much more than my Canon 6d in the last year. Laziness and for the casual photos the iPhone works well. I probably have printed a couple hundred prints in the last 5 years of DSLR ownership between two Canons. And I have over 10,000 photos on my hard drive. Nice thing about my iPhone is that the photos are always at my fingertips if I want to view them. Not so much with the DSLR. The 6d has wifi and I can sync it with my iPhone and have full frame quality photos on the phone.
