A really bad windshield

Hello guys,

I have this truck in reparation, and i wanna polish this windshield, its the worst windshield i ever seen, seems he never washed in the last 5 years....



So far after reading some hundreds threads, the best i ever seen- How to Polish Glass with Pinnacle GlassWork Water Spot Remover and
Autowerx CeriGlass Guide

I came out with this following option
  • Dewalt 849X
  • CarPro Rayon Glass Polishing Pad
  • Ceriglass
  • Pinnacle GlassCoat Window Sealant

But for buy all of this produtcs I have to buy in UK, will be a bit expensive if i buy everything there but I found a shop in Portugal that showed this kit(this shop sells alot of meguiars products)
  • Smooth Surface Clay Kit or Detailing Clay- Mild
  • M105
  • For a rotary polisher
  • Wool Light Cutting Pad and SoftBuff Polishing Pad 7
  • DA Microfiber Cutting Pad 3"
  • DA Microfiber Cutting Pad 5"

with this kit i cant erase those scratches caused by the brushes he said, but will make the difference,
Now the professionals around here please give me your opinion there is some thing i can buy on this kit?
Should i change de M105 for the Ceriglass and use CarPro Rayon Glass Polishing Pad?

and im thinking buying the rotary polisher for a most fast cleanig, or should i start for a DA?

Hello there! I found this post through the link you left on my CeriGlass guide.

Looks like that windshield needs a little love!

To answer you directly:
In my experience clay is worthless for removing hard water spots, especially once they are etched from years of neglect. However, I would still recommend claying the glass prior to polishing to remove any embedded contaminates that get stuck in your pads.

I've never tried wool + m105 on glass. I suppose it might work. You can always give it a shot! I have always had the perspective that if I want to do something I try and use a dedicated product & tool for the job at hand. For glass polishing that means a dedicated glass polish that contains cerium oxide and a pad that will be firm enough to facilitate significant defect removal.

Regarding the rotary vs the DA. Although I was able to get the same results with a DA using the CarPro glass pads.... I'll just say this: If you are doing the windshield on that truck YOU'RE GONNA WANT THE ROTARY. :xyxthumbs:
 
You need the CarPro pads and Cerri Glass IMO. That is the only combo that is designed for the job, and actually works in 1 step. Paint polishes on paint pads won't remove scratches on glass, but will remove general funk. The LC pads will jack up you glass IME.

You can do it with a Griots DA. In fact, I see it as an advantage because you don't have to worry about it getting as hot. Also, I don't know if its possible to be left with something analogous to paint holograms in glass that you sometimes get on paint with a rotary.

If your doing this for $$$, make sure to charge accordingly. It takes a long time to polish glass.

now, how many pads i need to clean the windshield and the 2 side windows?
2 pads are enough, 1 for windshield and 1 for the side windows?

And Ceriglass, on average how much "ml" you spend to clean a car?

btw, I will post the progress when start the polish process :buffing:

If you are doing this all at once you are going to want at least one for the windshield and another one for the side windows. You may also want to consider a smaller pad for around the corners because there will be a noticeable difference on any areas you do not reach with the machine.

You will find that you barely use any product. I haven't ever kept track of how much is actually used... and it would really depend on the job... I guess I would estimate less than 15ml of product would do everything you need.
 
I've polished glass
use a rotary. a da will throw product every where
105 will work
use a Micro Fiber pad.
you want a flat hard pad.
Get some Cerium Oxide. It's a powder and available everywhere.
Mix it into the 105 and you'll be fine.
a wool pad will work but you'll need a longer work time.

uhm good to know, 15ml is nothing hehe :xyxthumbs:
so I will buy the 3'' also, but i got a question the backplate should i buy with the same size of carpro pads? or smaller? like 5'' Carpro pad 4,5'' backplate?

updates!

I got the all the material bought from Spain, less the car pro pads, seems they love the last stop, Germany, and i got a old windshield to pratice first :P pics soon!

Know some people are asking me to polish the headlights, so after as days of searching i find this set:

Opti-Hyper Polish/ Polish II-
Opti-Lens seal

and for pads... the problem lol, I watched those videos that Mike did, and the pads those kits bring:
Meguiars Headlight and Clear Plastic Restoration Kit
Meguiars Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit
Diamondite headlight

seems to do a really good job, but i will not buy a kit for the pads only, in the market what are the pads most used, the best pads for headlight "almost new" and those with heavy yellows? I want to show the best look!

First off, thank you for all the members who helped me, special to Mike Philips and Nicholas@Autowerx and his tutorial !

Unfortunatly I dont had much time to try take out some of scratches, it had to sail for another island where will work, the client was amazed with the results Im the MAN, the new driver will take back the visibility, i took 2h to polish the whole windshield, i must say ceriglass and carpro rayon pad works perfectly with the enough amount of water and speed control on rotary tool we can do it fast for take out all of minerals, etc.. of the glass very quickly, i found there alot of small impact points of rocks but I dont had to much time to take out all off but i think would be more easy if I used the 3'' pad on those spots, i will try next time xD

I have here a old windhsield to do some experiments, and I have some serious risks as well, it is possible to remove any of these?
