A request I found a bit odd

I agree with the comment about trying to get him to let me repair the blemishes.
I did but he insisted that he wanted this stuff. Seemed like he may have had a different agenda in mind or it seems he'd have wanted to fix not fill them.
O well the turtle wax worked pretty darn good. Thanks..

While I was looking around for it I tried looking for some megs glaze OTC and not one store outta 5 in my little town had it. Or any other OTC that said anything about it being a glaze.. how strange..

O and the nu finish I've been hearing about it a good bit lately. What's up with it? Is it really that good? And what is it actually? A polish, a glaze, does it have fillers? What is this stuff about?

If the car isnt that bad, I would wash,clay and hit it with m205 on a white, or orange pad. (Depending how bad the paint is). Put some 845 on it, topped with xmt 360 spray wax and I guarantee he will forget about turtle wax. Just my .02
 
I agreee with a lot of what has been suggested so far. I mean, beyond a doubt THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. But..... sometimes what they *think* is right isn't *actually* what works right.

FWIW, I'm thinking the old OTC they used was probably some sort of Megs red bottle product. Might not say it's a glaze, but a cleaner wax is pretty close. (It has polish in it, and fillers.....)

IOW's, if you have a method in place that you know gives excellent results, and you *know* once he sees it that he'll be in awe of how it looks, then DO THAT. Tell him that not only will you give him a shine, but it'll have depth, and it'll be more durable than he had before.

Psssst.... he need not know that you are going to hit it with 205 (or whatever), and then do glaze, or a quick poly sealant, topped with a synthetic/carnuba blend or even a pure carnuba. Surprise him and show him just what he's been missing.

I mean, I dunno, he's your customer but bottom line is he wants a shiny car. Rather than trying to chase all over town, trying this and that, just give him what you know works.

The Pinnacle Souveran made my bonzemist metallic car shine like mad so I cant imagine how awesome it would make BLACK look!!! I say if you get his business for the future invest in some PS!!
 
It's kind of funny, but this thread brings back a lot of memories. In my "prime" as a detailer, I was doing a lot of work on heavily modified Corvettes, Camaros, and GM trucks. I'm generalizing a bit, but the owners of these vehicles could be lumped into two groups. The first, and unfortunately very small group, wanted stuff done right and didn't object to the dollar amount. The other group of folks had no problem nickel-and-diming everything, to include the notion that a show-quality detail should cost $100.

The moral of the story: some folks get it, some folks don't. And that's okay - it makes it easier for us to focus our efforts. The surprising part in this case is that the vehicle owner wanted to contract with the OP to perform something he could've easily done himself in his own garage.

By all means, give the customer what he wants, and deposit the check. The danger, ironically, lies in the referrals that come from such a job. "Dude - I totally recommend my detailer. He made my car look this good, and it only cost me $xxx."
