A turtle wax product I actually like.

a terrible company

Dubiousness of TW-products---non-existant, real, or perceived---aside:

-Isn't 'The Turtle' still one of, if not the largest 'car-care products' company...
-------(or at least that's the description given to this type of a USA-based,
business-organization by the Dept. of Commerce/IRS)-------
...in the World?

-And such a successful (VERY $$$profitable$$$) company at that!!

-They seem to actually know/caters-to their market-segment, as well!!
(Similar to other companies that are successful.)

If only this 'terrible company' had made it available:
Wish I could've had some TW stock accruing over the last 50 years!!
(OH well...I suppose my 3M/Meguiar's stock will have to tide me over for awhile.)

:)

Bob

Note: This is an excellent TW product...

Been using it for many decades!!

I don't mean to tick anyone off, but I think we all (me included), tend to not even give some OTC products a chance, especially TW, Nu Finish, etc.

The bulk of TW products are not great. However, they have a wax as you dry product I use on my wheels. Cheap, easy to use, and a good booster. ICE spray wax is really decent and looks like on trim. Their QD is good too, goes on sale, and is a nice drying aid. Their leather cleaner/conditioner is very nice as well. Their other stuff...meh.

NuFinish is another good example. OK...it's old school. But, I got in a pinch last year and didnt have a durable LSP in my cabinet and the cold weather was here. Off to Wal Mart for $7.99 Nu Finish. I prepped the car well, applied a coat, and started the experiment. It's a fairly sterile look, but on my light colored car, it actually looked good. Several compliments, easy to use, and definitely lasted through the winter. The best out there? No. Pretty surprising? Yes.

Dont discount some of these products or think an entire line is junk. Some stuff on the shelf will surprise you.

I'm not biased at all, just sharing MY experience with their clay kit. You tried the kit with the blue clay right? The stuff literally started deteriorating halfway through claying a chevy tahoe. And the car has been garaged it's whole life, barely driven. My mother's clay kit has never failed me, surely never deteriorated either.

Didn't say you were biased, rather, that I am not. Had no intention of insinuating you were biased and you have my apology if I came off sounding insinuating that.

No issue with you mentioning your experiences. Obviously, you recognized something was wrong with the product. I just don't want you or anyone else passing up good deals on a great product based on one clay bar falling apart. For the money, what have you got to lose? I'd be more than happy to send you half a clay bar(unused portion) that I'm using that is working great, if you like. However, if you look around you can find great buys on the kit and even if the clay is bad, usually the detailer in the box cost more than an entire kit.

A garage kept car, and for that matter a brand new car off of the car lot, doesn't necessarily mean it's free of contaminants, but it sounds like you know if the car is badly contaminated or not. That's good.

What did your clay look like before it fell apart? That is, how much contamination was showing up and did the clay need kneading before it fell apart? What lube was you using? Answers could point to why the clay fell apart, or the answer could point to quality issues with the clay.

I've heard that plain soap and water can possibly cause some clay to deteriorate faster. I've also seen other people write that soap and water is all they use as a lube for their clay.

The TW clay (blue) seems to have...more of a plastic-e feel to me than the other over-the-counter clays, and a bit finer...almost slick rather than tacky...as if it's some sort of poly clay or something. Don't know how to really describe it, but it looks an awful lot like the pinnacle blue poly clay that I've seen in pictures on the forum. I've wanted to compare them, but can't seem to justify the price for the pinnacle based on the results I'm getting from kit deals.

I tried and used that stuff back in the day and I did like their QD, along with their carwash (when I used the old school method). Now the actual TW Ice wax on the other hand, streak city!

Sent from my SPH-M930 using AG Online

TW Ice soap=$4.99 gallon at Sam's Club. I couldn't believe it and will be buying some of it.

Maybe I got a bad box? Not sure. I used meguiars quick detailer as clay lube. The vehicle wasn't badly contaminated at all. What I noticed was that the clay started separating, little chunks would fall off, and the clay started feeling rough because of the little separations in the clay. It's hard to describe, I should've taken a picture.

Weird, for sure. I'd hate to count the clay bar kits I've had from them and still have. Never had an issue, or even heard of an issue until now.

I have seen the clay get real dirty and then it would really take some kneading to get it to stick back together, but I attribute that to the elasticiy of the clay. It isn't at all sticky like Griot's or Mothers clay that are gold in color. In fact, my first mothers kit was gray colored clay, as has been my Meguiar's kits. All have performed flawlessly, but the TW clay seems more slick in my hands, possibly having a more fine feel to it. Of course, that slickness is felt after I get some lube on it. It's quite sticky out of the box, but not as much as the Mothers clay. The new Mothers clay compared to clay from that company that I used many years ago is a lot more sticky than previous.

Your right about the Mothers clay very sticky but great to use. I have only clayed 3 cars and have only used mothers. It was a better deal then the Meguairs. I love the cinnamon smell from the show time spray. Honestly I didn't get as dirty as some pictures and videos l've seen using it. It did a great job any way, paint was really smooth. I like that the kit comes with 2 bars and a sample of car wash. Next I'm looking to try diamondite clay for the glass.

Yes...the smell of Showtime spray is awesome. Don't worry about the clay not being dirty...that's what you want. I mean it's better if you don't find much on the clay and that means your paint is clean...what you want.
