As the title states. Who has the best body shop with the most skilled painters in the area? Unfortunately I need to lay down Mystichrome paint on the rear bumpercover of my '04 Cobra.

From what I hear it isn't an easy process. Has to be painted black 1st, then basecoat, then clear with NO sanding at all!!! All the layers compliment each other (ie Dupont brand only) and the Mystichrome paint is in the ballpark of $500/pint.

to bad your in s fla. and not ct my son is painter and only uses dupont paints goes to dupont school 2 times a year

i was told if u had pearl paint that changes colors and u need a pannel repainted u will have to repaint the entire car because when the sun hits it the paint wont match up.

First Class in Pompano Beach, there is really no contest. They're Ferrari factory certified and they finish out with Menzerna.

Ask for John, he's a great guy.

Pompano Beach Auto Body Repair, Jaguar, Ferrari repair - 1stclassauto.com

They are the absolute best Body Shop I've ever worked with. They are 1 of 6 repairs shops in the country authorized by Ferrari to repair their cars. They are also Aston Martin, Maserati, Jaguar & Porsche factory certified too. They are the only shop in S. Florida that sprays water born paint as well as Ceramic Clear Coat. I've been to 100's of shops and nobody's work compares! They can do any and all repairs as long as you want it done to the absolute highest standard. They use Menzerna too! Here's a Ferrar that hit the wall at 160 mph that they are fixing right now:

Thanks for the inputs!!

I wound up going with Murphy's Paint and Body in West Palm on Southern. The paint system on the Mystic is Dupont and I prefer a shop that is familiar with the product. They wanted to use a factory pack (ie premixed) however Dupont is not producing them any longer. BASF has two sister co's that do, however they weren't used at the factory Dupont was. So to spot fix Dupont would still be the way to go for best matching. I have to go next week to check 3 spray down cards and sign off on which one matches best. Just to figure out the best match is $362. After that the pint is $435 plus reducers, activators, groundcoats, clear etc. Probably looking at $1500 to fix 2 3" long x 1/4" wide scratches.

Tell them you want any materials left over since you are paying for them. A lot of shops won't give you the stuff that's left over unless you ask. Then they use it on the next job, and charge that next customer for it too while they already have it in stock.

why not go to your vehicle makers dealer ??
your a fish in the water, waiting to be caught...

Almost every dealership body shop does terrible work. I've never seen one that even approaches the relm of "best". Most dealerships don't need to care about quality and won't even remember your name. There's way too many people that go to them automatically when something happens to their vehicle that they don't need to produce exceptional quality. To them you're just a number, not a name.

we know dealers are just another guy looking to make a buck, but 1500 for 2 scratches is kinda high, unless your rich and you don't want to bother looking around. you can get a dealer to possibly guarantee their work for a few dollars over the base rate.
besides - also - I never heard of paint costing 500 for a pint.. sorry...
if I needed someone special,I would probably go to a ROD SHOW, and find someone there..

The Ford Dealer has to get the paint from Dupont anyway, it is not accessible through their parts system.

The majority of the cost is associated with the paint price. Just because you haven't heard of $500/pint paint doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It is not like I am taking the body shops word for it on the paint cost I have done TONS of reasearch on the product.

Have you ever seen a Mystic Chrome Cobra? You may not be understanding the technology associated with the paint.

Well now for the update. I finally picked up the cover today. I wound up using BASF R-M Diamont factory pack as Dupont does NOT make a factory pack Mystichrome any more. I brought the FP to Advantage Ford in Stuart on the Florida BASF rep's advice. The body shop manager has done both full sprays as well as spot fixes with great success. The use only R-M line paint so they had all the reducers, clears, etc. on hand.

I can report a great success!!!! They wound up spraying the entire cover and also painted the COBRA stencil in matallic silver. No more cheap stickers, painted and cleared over now! It stands out way more and shines like the paint. I am very happy with the overall job and the match is perfect due to the facory mixed paint.

All in all it wound up being alot cheaper than I thought $486 out the door including the pt. of paint.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I'd love to see some pictures of your car. How well does the bumper match the 1/4's?

The Mystic paint is very $$ I'm not surprised at the prices at all. Owning a Mystic car is nice but I would fear any scratch and repair bill.

The match is perfect due using the factory pack (ie factory mixed color). Taking the human factor out of mixing seems to be the way to go. The only issue is the factory clear is way orange peeled and not very glossy (rest of the car). It is not due to the age of the car or sun etc., as it has been garaged since new. According to the body shop (pre painting of the cover), "The factory uses a cheaper clear and the mystics are known to show alot more orange peel."

So now of course I want to get the entire car re-cleared!!!
