Adhesive Residue - Dashboard

Did a search but couldn't find the information I was looking for. I have some leftover adhesive residue on my dash from the person who had the car before me. They must have had something mounted there. On the advice of people from another forum, I tried using Goo Gone to remove the residue and instead it left a faded looking spot on my dash and still didn't remove the adhesive. I still don't know how to remove this gunk, and I can't seem to find a way to restore the dash to it's original finish. Hoping for some pro advice, I don't want to do anymore damage! Thanks for reading.
 
Forgot to mention. Car is an '05 s2000. Dash is black and I believe it's vinyl.

I would try to soften up the adhesive with something like OPC- Optimum Power Clean 3:1- out of direct sunlight- let it dwell & gently rub, repeat if necessary.

What's it from a nav mount?

My wife has a Pacifica and we had purchased a backup camera for it that got mounted to the dash via an adhesive-held mounting bracket. When it was out in the sun, the bracket would fall off. It left a stain on the dash pad that I have been unable to remove with anything. It had eaten into the material by the looks of it. You can't feel it and it has stained the area.
 
This isn't quite that bad. The texture is still there, I think it's just a strong adhesive
 
you need to use something not to aggresive . degreaser will be strong. Use all purpose cleaner. & if you can put some steam on it. that will remove it for sure

Believe it or not, but creamy peanut butter will remove most adhesives. I'll get some on my finger and rub it on the spot just using my finger. Really it works...
 
Fast orange is a good starting point. Safe and effective. I use it to remove inspection stickers also.
 
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll prob try a steam cleaner first and then diluted OPC if that doesn't work. Thanks again!
