Hello all!
Need some SERIOUS advice on how to correct my 03 MCS hood's paint. Here's a pic of the hood

I have a Porter Cable. Can you suggest what pads to use & with what product?

That cat would get Menzerna FG400 / SF4000, with Lake Country Hydrotech pads. Cyan with the FG (if needed), and SF4000 on the Tangerine pad (that what I'd do my initial test spot with.). Duragloss 111 to seal it on the Crimson pad.

It looks like it could be clear coat failure. Hard to tell, may be reflection from the clouds.
Welcome to AGO

Welcome to AGO! I agree, it looks like clear coat failure. Mr. Phillips has a write-up on clear coat failure if I can find it.

It looks like it has some signs of clear coat failure. I can clearly see the swirls in the paint, But what sticks out to me is the cloudiness and the spots in the clear. You can try to correct the paint but i believe the clear with fail eventually. To me it seems as it already is. Is the whole car like that?

Thanks for the replies guys!
The clouds are a reflection. The hood is the only section that has the swirls.
Here's a slightly better angle.

I used Griot's Sealant and Best of show(with Lake County pads:Orange & Black).

Sealants are a final step, they will not do anything to correct paint. I strongly suggest Wolfgang Uber Compound with Lake Country HydroTech Cyan pads. Will have that hood looking like new.

I'd also suggest you look up some of Mike Phillips how-to threads before you tackle this.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. The Griots One Step Sealant had a mild polish with it,clearly wasn't enough to correct the paint.

I agree with this or even meguiars 105 in place of fg400

Would I need Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover & Wolfgang Finishing Glaze?

Would you recommend Mequiars 205 in place of SF4000?

It all depends on what you have on hand. There are many different combinations of Compound to Polish

If you don't have any Menzerna products then yes Meguiars 105 to 205 would work.

Also Wolf Gang Uber Compound to wolf gang Finishing Glaze would work too.

Here is a Chart showing you Each Compound...

For sure. I use all four of those products regularly. Even Ultimate Compound, and Ultimate Polish is worth a go. The first combo I posted is based on initial reaction to the picture.

Do you guys use more than one pad for each step? Or do you clean the pads when they dirty?
Iv'e tried using the "towel method with little luck.

Ill reiterate what I previously said, go read some of Mike Phillips how-to articles here. You're question shows you need to read before you correct your paint....not insulting here, we all start out there. You need several pads for each step. I use 5 or 6 for correcting. You'll want at least that many for each step.

Again, please don't take any of this as a negative or to make you feel like your questions arent wanted. Ask away. But you really need to read up on this!

^^^^^^
Yeah because the pad is as important as the product and once the pad becomes loaded up with product and grime from the paint it becomes ineffective. It also heats up and it can delaminate from the backing and the foam breaks down. The more pads you use the better the job and the longer the pads last as they don't get worn out. You can never have too many pads or quality mf towels.
