Hi,I begin shopping for a rotary buffer and I'm interesting about the flex L3403 and I have questions:

#1 For use this buffer can I use CCS pads 6.5" like this?
eShine Canada: Lake Country 6.5" CCS Orange Light Cutting Pad
#2 for use a wool pad this pad it is ok?
eShine Canada: Lake Country 7.5" 4 Ply 100% Twisted Wool Pad
#3 for backing plate witch I have to choose?
this:
eShine Canada: Lake Country 5" Rotary Backing Plate
or this:
eShine Canada: Lake Country 6.5" Backing Plate (Rotary)

thanks to your help!:xyxthumbs:

no answers??

Sometimes we can stay pretty busy behind the scenes working on offline projects... sorry for the delay...

Here's the short answer...

You can run any pad size on the Flex 3403 but the larger the pad the more you're going to make the motor work and that will show up as heat in the body.

A good size to stick with it 6.5" and smaller. Can you go 7 inches? Sure but if you're buffing out an entire car then you're going to generate a lot of heat with larger pads to the motor/body of the tool.

As long as you use a handle for one hand and hold the trigger hand with the other handle you'll be okay, it's only if you hold the body of the tool that you'll feel the warmth.

Now here's the long version...

Lots of information to read...

Then I can take the same pads as a DA? Did you see the link I put for the backing plate and the wool pad? Is that correct?

Nah... I didn't click on it but 7.5 is as good as 8 inches...

The tool isn't best suited for large buffing pads and somewhere a line has to be drawn that will separate small pads from large pads...

5.5" pads work optimum for the Flex 3403

People ask if you can use larger pads and the answer is "yes" because you can place a larger backing plate on the tool and affix a larger pad and then if you plug the machine in and pull the trigger the pad will rotate. That means, "yes" it will work.

Is it expecting too much too make the Flex Lightweight work the larger pads?

I think so... common sense has to play a part at some point and if you want to use large pads use them with a full size rotary buffer. Safe the lightweight for small pads.

:)

I saw your video and it is very small compared to a Makita.
So I get a rotary back plate 5 "and 7" and use the pads that I take as my 7424xp and a woolpad 7.5"

I would like advice about others members on this forum??? what do you advice me??

Mike is right on. Anything larger than 6" pads will overheat the 3403. Just read a post that said if you are using 7.5" pads with the 3403 and it heats up just run the machine for a minute with no load and it will cool down. Haven't tried it yet so I don't know if this tip is factual.

so you thing a wool pad 7.5" is to large for the flex L3403??

FWIW just read another post that after 50 hrs. the 3403 will not heat up. Never kept track on the hours of my Flex, but it's should be close to the 50hr. mark. But then again I don't use 7" pads on the Flex.

is that I plan to buy a L3403 and I want to know what's best for flex

It seems the 6" edge wool pad is perfect for the 3403.
Mark, when the edge pads first came out I bought it for the pc and they were just too heavy for the pc. Maybe with the Flex it would be better, but since they make a 6" wool pad why not use that with the 3403? The purple foam wool should work as well.

Hey Ron, I think you may have mis-read my other post and thought I said the 6" wool pad would be perfect for the 3401. In my earlier post, I did say the 3403. :)

Mark, I did not mis-read your post. Just was telling you my experience with the Edge pads and the PC. Wool pads on a 3401...dunno I don't own a 3401. I have a 3403, Makita, PC and a Griot RO works for me.:buffing:

Now I see what you're saying. :xyxthumbs: My buddy just got a 3403 and I'm gonna try it next week. Do ou find yourself using the Makita or the 3403 more?

They are both great machines, but I use the Flex more especially when doing side panels. The only down side, when I crank it up to 1800 RPM to jewel, I need ear plugs. The high pitch sound is pretty load.

so,the best that I should do is buy a Makita with a woolpad 7.5 with backing plate and a backing plate 5" for use my foams pads 5.5 "I wait also about the new 1pad of Lake country if it's good!!

woolpad has a cutting pad can he both remove sand marks?
