Hi!
Next Friday I'm getting my Brand New Car! :)
Its a Black Ford Focus.

I've just been in the dealership signing some papers and I have seen the car. Its en good very good shape but it seems that someone wash it and it has some swirls, very light swirls (Maybe regular people doesnt even notice them...)

I don't think it will need claying, but i'll just do a baggie test.
Then I was thinking of using my GG 6 with black pads and SF4500 to remove swirls and improve gloss, and the applying two coats of WDGPS and two layers of DP Max Max or Naviwax Dark.

DO you think Black Pad + SF4500 will remove swirls? Is a paint cleaner necessary?

Would a coating be a very better choice that a good sealant re-applied every 4 months?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Martin

Hey Martin! Welcome to AGO! :D

If it were mine.

  1. 1: Iron-X snow foam
  2. soapy water rinse
  3. use soapy water and Nanoskin the entire thing, GLASS included
  4. second rinse
  5. dry
Being as it's new, YES I'd put a coating on it, or at least on the glass, wheels (inside and out) and rotors/calipers.

As hard as Ford paint is in general, I'm not sure that 4500 and a black pad will do it. I like FF4000 better, much better. It cuts a bit better, but finishes just as well. (Well at least on everything but the most pristine garage queen/show car finishes where you MIGHT be able to eek out just a bit more gloss with 4500.)

I'd probably start on it with IP2000 or PF2500 with a white, maybe a blue pad if it has any RIDS at all. Dealers are bad enough at putting swirls in, but the RIDS are what really pisses me off!

You'll probably need something more than FF4000 and black pads to get it where it needs to be. It really doesn't have hardly any cut, and if you go to a heavy cut pad you're likely to just introduce micro-marring. I'd rather use a product that has a bit of cut and let it do the work, then finish it down. I've done brand new cars, and they ALL have problems. Even the ones that are shipped via enclosed truck, totally wrapped in plastic. For those that are shipped by rail, and are beat up by a dealerships 'detail' shop... pffft... that's where I'd tell them to leave it alone, don't even wash it.

I mean I did a C7 that was brand new and that puppy was eat up with swirls, smudges and a few deep RIDS. That one took a combination of microfiber pads, orange pads, D300, FG400 (in a few places), then FF4000 and blue, then black pads.

I feel ya' though with the WGDGPS 3.0. I like it better than a coating on my cars as I'm always fiddling around with them. It's easy to add more, keep layering, wash, dry, put more on every so often and call it a day well spent. :)

That being said, I have put one type or another coating on all 5 of mine at one time or another. (Well it's 4 now as my daughter got married 2 years ago, the day before her 25th birthday.) ;) I like the longevity of coatings. But I like putting something ON TOP of them too. What can I say?????

Thanks Cardaddy!

I live in Argentina, and I can't easily get iron Soap..

i Was thinking of Washing with CG Citrus, and then use Naniskin Towel.
Regarding to the polish, I have Sf4500, Carpro Fixer, M205 and Wolfgang Uber.

Which one do you think I should Apply? I was thinking of doing a Test Spot first with SF4500, then M205 and so....

Hi Lonye,

If it was me I'd make the dealer, fix it before accepting.

Otherwise, start with the least aggressive, if that does not work progress, to more aggressive.. FYI I like your plan.

Have fun with your new baby!!!!

I have yet to meet a dealership that knows how to properly "fix" any paint in their hack shops. This may not apply to every dealership, then again you didn't see the gorgeous $140,000 Mercedz SL 550 that pulled in next to me the other day. It was a 2014 and the Mercedez dealership washes it when he brings it in for service/oil change etc. Suffice it to say it was a swirled out mess.

When I took delivery of my genny I ordered them not to wash it.

Black is Beautiful and HIGH Maintenance. You just signed up for a full time job and on a daily driver that's black, well you'll get the idea. It'll be dirty 85-90% of the time.

Start with the sf4500, try a white pad, if that doesn't get it go orange and then you can finish it out with a white pad.

Please note my new daily driver purchased in January, it's white :buffing:

This was when I forst got my GC, note no tint or wheels yet.

I used a PC with LC flat Orange / white pad combo and Menzerna SF4000.

This was about 3-1/2 years ago.

That is pure polished clear coat no lsp added.

You can see the PCand the Menzerna bottle in the reflection.

This is a link to a ton of Mike's posts, it's a wealth of information.

Thanks all for your help!

I have decide that according to my weather, Cquartz was the better choice for me than Cquartz UK.

I have some more doubts.

As I said, my car is new but dealer (even he is a good one) put some swirls on my car... They are light swirls, but they are there, so I must polish first.
I don't have very much experience polishing. I've only done my Ford Fiesta with acceptable results to me (With White pad and SIP 1500).

The plan for my car is:

a) Wash with CG citrus
b) Iron X (I really don't know if is necessary)
c) Inspect where claying is needed. If so, I've nanoskin towel and Mothers claying kit
d) Wash again with Citrus.
e) Polish. I only speak about SF4500, but I've some more polishes. I've Menzerna Sf4500, Menz SIP 1500, M205, Wolfgang Uber, M105, Carpro Fixer and ultimate compound (on each travel I ask someone to bring me something jajaja). I know I need to do a test spot, but what should be the best combo? Black pad + Sf4500? or do I need more cut? SOmeone told ford coat wasnt hard... Maybe Black pad + M205 or should I use 2 stages with white pad and Black pad after? Or is it OK to do an Orange + White. I really like your results custmsprty.
Someone is getting some Cquartz for me, should I buy and try Reflect?

f) Wipe with Eraser
g) Cquartz

h) For wheels, I think I'll be buying Dlux.

Is this OK?

I'd really appreciate all the help.
Regards!
Martin

The best advice I can give you is pick one system an use it. I'd go WG Uber with Orange or white pad and then Menz 4500 with white pad. Especially if you're going to coat it. Since Menz and WG Polishes share commonalities.that's what I'd do if I had your products. And I too have both of those. I personally am not a fan of coatings. I don't mind sealing and waxing, I enjoy it.

Keep in mind my GC is a garage queen, it only comes out on sunny days.

I polished and sealed my Rogue 4 months ago and it's still looking good. It's carried me through the Florida summer. And I haven't washed it in at least a month, it rains every day. I just make sure I have a nice sealant and wax combo on it for the summer months.

If I remember correctly that's WG 3.0 with WG Fuzion on top on my Rogue.

:iagree:

Perhaps i'm still back in the 60's, but aren' you supposed to wait a month or so (paint harden cure, whatever) before attacking? Like just hose it off & dry?????

Likewise I instruct the dealer, DO NOT WASH it, when you get it. They think, I'm weird

Is coating a new car a "bad" idea if you like to tinker with products? I'm in a similar situation - I figured coating the car would be a good move to help protect against swirls and etc. It's a weekend car - maybe 500-600 miles a month.
