Advice on these scratches

Hi guys. I am doing a 1-step correction on a 2009 Subaru WRX. I decided that a orange LC CCS 5.5 pad and pf2500 would be the best after a test spot. I am using a PC. The car has had the front bumper and hood repainted and had serious RIDS, most on the sides on the car. Forget swirls, thousands of RIDS on the sides on the car. On the hood there were also rids but I achieved 85-90 correction. Swirls are gone but some RIDS remain as expected.

Can a machine wash really cause this much damage? This is after 12 section passes.

I'm doing this job for a friend, so I may use m105 on the sides tomorrow. I'm not sure if that would yield much improvement though. Some of the damage appears to need wet sanded or at the least compounded with a stronger machine.







 
Your definitely going to have to go more aggressive. Your going to have to keep stepping up until you get some correction.
 
Yeah, I know that. But the owner is paying for a 1 step, and a good deal on one. I already had to spend 3 hours removing unexpected overspray on the car. I mean horrible over spray, the kind that makes me wish I had a AutoScrub Pad.
 
Are you sure they are scratches? This is what paint on one of my cars looks like. I asked about this on the forum before and I believe someone stated it is a paint defect called crazing or cracking.

Looks like the front fenders? Those deeper scratches are most likely from people's pants constantly grinding and rubbing on the fenders while working on the engine.
 
FG400 is my suggestion. Try to start on white polishing pad since this compound really cuts through paint, but depending on hardness of surface you're working on (you'll know by the results of your white pad + FG400), you can step up to orange cutting pad or even wool or MF (microfiber) pads.

If white or even orange takes care, try to use Smack's technique to finish down FG400 in one step. If you need to go for wool or MF, I'm afraid you'll have to finish down with a finishing polish and pad, but that will just take some 4-5 passes, and working only a small area, that will not make everything a 2-step, just the worst section.

I know what you mean owner paying for 1-step but you already struggled at overspray removal... lost the count how many times I've been through that.

Try to compound the most damaged area, finish the rest of the car on one step and argue to the owner that to fully correct the paint you need both more time and more money, so you can schedule later.

Find a polite way to explain this, they generally will understand and support you if you give a good turnaround on the rest.

Thanks tato, ill take your advice. I don't have fg400. Ill try m105 on a meg MF cutting disk.
 
My friend was so happy with the results!!!

Today I used megs MF cutting disk and meg d300 and achieved 90-95 percent correction on the whole car. Definitely my last correction the the PC. Time to order a rupes!!
