Just watched the Pinnacle how to video. I can't believe how long the guy goes over and over the same spot with polish. Grant it he explains about getting the haze and imperfections out, but to do a 2' x 2' spot looks like it takes forever. I worried because my car is new, and I want it to look great not screw it up. I took a quartz light and held it up to my paint and can't see any scratches or swirl marks. Dealer had already put sealant on before I bought it. Dealer put on ResistAll Cal-Tex sealant. Do I need to remove ther sealant to put on the Wolfgang Paint Gloss Sealant and then cover with Pinnacle Wax. Or should I just clay bar then do sealant and wax.

If you have no swirls, then use a very light polish/pad combo. Otherwise, just slap on a nice layer of wax or sealant and off you go!

With the Portercable DA it does take some time. I'm sure your vehicle has some minor swirl/scratches on it, so far I've done two band new vehicles and they come with swirls specially how your saying the dealer has put the sealant on, quartz light..not familiar with it but if you use a Xenon light or a 1000W tripod type of light on it you should be able to see the swirls/scratches. As for removing the dealers sealent my opinion would be to remove everything that is on the vehicle then clay, sealant and wax....but that's just my opinion.

I have a brand new car and I just did the Wolfgang DGPS and topped it with Pinnacle Souveran. I wouldn't polish it. The paint may have some imperfections but I really haven't seen any, and if it requires me to take a halogen light and inspect every square inch with a magifying glass then I am ok with leaving it stock. I will do a polish in a year or two once imperfections start to accumulate and there is an actual need to make corrections to the finish. As for now, if I was you, I wouldn't polish. Who knows, it may come out worse after the polish than it did before because of hazing and stuff.

That shouldnt happen when doing it correctly and using a light polish like hed need. Something like XMT 360 would be perfect.

your gonna kick yourself at some point, for not taking the chance. Very easy, and very safe , you just need patience as machine is not made like a rotary polisher.

Gary, If your new car does not have any swirls I would not polish it. I would not even clay it unless it really needs it. I have seen some new cars with a lot of contamiates on the paint and other with none. If the paint is in great shape just put a nice layer of wax or sealant on it by hand or both sealant/wax if you like. If you take care in the way you wash and dry your car you can go a long time without getting swirls on your car.

Eventually your car will get swirls and you will want to polish it. AG is a great forum and you can learn alot here about polishing your car. Polishing a car with a PC is very easy. When your car needs it and you feel comfortable doing it, get a PC or the new UDM and do it.

Polishing a car is a big part of detailing and there's a lot of talk on the forum about it. If you are new to detailing and start reading a lot of threads on the forum it would be easy to get the impression that some people polish their car every month. This is not the case (at least I hope not). A lot of the professional detailers are polishing cars everyday everyday but it's obviously not the same car.

Okay Killrwheels I have kicked myself before. The truth is I've never bought a $50,000 plus car before. I want it to look awesome. Like I said watching the guy on the Pinnacle video was a little overwhelming he knows what he's looking for I don't. I've heard of people burning there finish with polishers. Tell me is there a polish that you can apply by hand, willing to work my butt off or fingers to the bone. I'm am going to buy a Porter Cable unit. Hey who wants come to Salinas,California to give polishing lessons.
Thanks Gary26

burning paint == rotary

never met a polish to date that worked well by hand. Easier to use glazes and fill (temp hide) the imperfections. VMG was a favorite.

in all honesty, there are some points on the car that require even longer work times.

I just got a PC, and I felt the same way at first. All I used was #3 on the hood and trunk, and 360 on the rest of the car. IMO you cant go wrong with the 360. Even if your car does not have alot of swirls. The 360 is incredible, so easy to use! And the more you do it, the more you learn. I have polished 3 of my friends cars in one week.
Get a PC you will not regret it.
