aftermarket wheels: like it, love it, or hate them?

Once you get into sports cars like those a new set of wheels is something to help with performance as well, not just for looks.

When you are talking a few thousand per wheel you dont see as many out on the road as you do when comparing to wheels that are a few hundred each.

Ferrari also comes with HRE stock on some of their models so really not much to upgrade to unless you want a different look.

I have a Porsche and if I had spare money to upgrade to HRE's I would but the cost is not worth it to me right now so they stay stock.
HRE's are sick but man $$$
I definitely agree, HRE's are so freaking beautiful but just so so much money.
Forgelines are also nice after-market wheels!

depends on the car and wheels, some cars look better with the OEM wheels. sometimes the wheels will look good but then there will be a gap where it will need a drop (on many not all) otherwise it will look like it's in 4 X 4 mode...

Some aftermarket wheels enhance performance with wider width (more grip) and lighter in weight.

I am definitely for them given the quality of the wheels are matched with the caliber of car.

I just picked up these HRE P40sc's and couldnt be happier. The car performs better and looks more appealing over stock (to me).

Now see that's just automotive porn right there!!!

Wow that is absolutely stunning! Love me some HRE's.

Yeah HREs are on another level when it comes to wheels..imo

I a firm believer in aftermarket wheels in most cases. I just don't like the look of many OEM wheels. Most of the time...

I've had some cars with OEM wheels I never liked but could never justify the cost of replacing. Others I really don't like, but can't find anything that looks better. And ocassionaly a rare moment comes around with cars like my wife's Toyota SUV and my GTI where I really like the OEM set-up.

On the whole, I don't think there is any German car that can't be improved with a set of tasetfully sized BBS's.

I think it all depends in what you consider aftermarket, I am against anything that starts or ends with DUB, but I am all for aftermarket that compliments the car rather than make a fashion statement.

Take for consideration my charger,

These are stock R/T rims painted black:

But I'm in the process of purchasing the dodge viper rims that also look great, aftermarket? For a charger yes,

This what they look like on a charger, I think it compliments the car very well;

^^ That looks dope! Those Viper wheels look like they were made for the Charger.

I am what you call a Wheel Wh*re!

And in oldest to newest:

Obviously...suspension changes and other exterior mods too.

Wheels are a quick way to drastically change the appearance of a car, even though they can be expensive. I am not a big fan of chrome wheels for the most part. When i bought my T/A it had these chrome wheels on it which I was really not a big fan off. So they were changed out pretty quick.

Night and day difference in my opinion :xyxthumbs:

The following picture of my car shows how I feel about after market wheels....

Changing your wheels more than I change underwear. Wheels are probably one if the easiest ways to make a new look. :xyxthumbs:

Yea. I have a new look for this summer as well. It will slow down now that I have a baby and rather spend that $$$ on her.

Bob, I enjoy your dry sense of humor.

Very rarely have I seen Aftermarket wheels that I like. For me personally, they looK very try hard. I'm old school so the OEM wheels complete the look of the ride but that's just my opinion...

I am sure it is age related - under 25 and you love hotted up cars, 25-35 you don't really care, and 35+ you understand they look stupid.

The only caveat is that a higher level OEM wheel on a standard moDel looks ok. i.e. 19" Golf GTI Detroits on a lower trim level Golf looks ok.

I`m 28. I see my love for a lot of modding slowing down. I`m at the phase where I want my next car to resemble a Grown man who still loves speed. Basically, I want a sedan that is fast, and looks amazing factory. I miss my 300C SRT-8. I sold it when I moved up here. Couldn`t bare to see it in the salt, plus I had never driven in snow before.

My favorite of all the wheels you've had!

I'm only 3 years away from realizing my cars look stupid.
Sure this is a detailing forum but real car enthusiasts will understand there's more to owning a car than keeping it clean. At least for me a huge chunk of enjoyment in my car hobby goes towards customizing/tailoring my car to my tastes. Additionally, I like my car to perform the best as possible ...hence the reason i have lightweight forged single piece HRE's.

So yeah...wheel appearance is important but they can serve other functions rather than to just look "dope" or "fly" lol. E.g. I have a separate set of wheels for the track and another set just for snow/winter.

Don't get me wrong...I see plenty of wheels on a daily basis I'd label "stupid" but it's a bit bold to label the views of a specific age group.
