I don't mean to hi-jack this thread too far but it got me thinking. It is still sleep related. What is the longest period of time you have went without sleep? I was on a business trip in New York City on the day of the 9/11 disaster. I had run out of sleeping pills 2 days prior and because I couldn't sleep spent the night preparing for a big business presentation the following day. By the time of the disaster I was already 24 plus hours without sleep. As you may remember the city was pretty much locked down. We were lucky and found a Hertz that had one rental car left. Once again we were lucky and caught one of only three ferry's that got off of the island. This was after waiting in line almost 9 hours for the ferry, there was a restaurant close by so we just let the car sit in its place and got food. We caught the ferry at about 3 a.m. the next morning. I drove straight from New York to Provo, Utah without sleep. It was just shy of 2300 miles. We didn't make particularly great time as many road blocks were set up throughout the East and Midwest. The drive itself took 38 hours. We stopped only for fuel and whatever fast food that happened to be attached to the gas station. The drive along with the events of 9/11, trying to get a car and finding a way out of the city all totaled was 77 hours without sleep for me. Oddly enough once home I had a hard time getting to sleep and only slept about 7 hours. My system just rebounded and got back into its normal routine. How long for you?
