If the paint is hard it might work.
Remember, anytime you use a pad with individual fibers being rubbed or pushed over the surface the potential exist for these fibers to cut the paint.
An extreme example of this is when a person buffs out a car using a wool pad on a rotary buffer. The fibers of the wool pad being ground into the paint but their own cuts into the paint and we call these cuts holograms.

So test first... and have a few different types of pad on hand to see which type of pad is giving you the best results for the car in front of you.
Paint systems are different and change from year to year, even among the same brand of car. So what works on one car doesn't mean it will automatically work on the next car.
So have some pad options and some chemical options at your disposal.
