air filter

Agreed. German cars (and the owners) are in their own world when it comes to maintenance.

What do I know, I own a Saab and like Swedish fish, must be the carnuba..........yummy!

Dont forget the blinker fluid.
And the butt dyno to see if it it really adds 50hp.

If I remember right from other threads, most of the miles on this car were just from driving the few miles to the train station.

All kidding and jokes aside.............

Bill,
check out Fuel Economy of the 2004 Audi A6 quattro

The MPG you've stated really isn't too far off what the government ratings are, probably have heard this before, YMMV (your mileage may vary) it gets confusing with everyone trying to help based on 1 question about changing an air filter, they are cheap and easy to do.
Like learning how to detail cars, read, watch, listen (to some degree)

That is awesome! They have the
Kuhneutson Valve

I need one of those to keep my BMW running right!

OR left when driving on some roads in Europe!! :props:

Need to get a jar of elbow grease, almost out

Im here on this forum to learn, not to be made fun of, please stop guys

Sorry for that, but we are trying to help.

You said the computer is reading 11mpg. Have you ever done any hand calculations? I recall you saying in the past that car was only driven a few miles to the train station most of the time. That would be why it is reading 11mpg. The poor thing probably doesn't even reach full operating temps in that short amount of distance.

you are probably right that I cant reach full operating temps. Im definately replacing the air filter as I never have before and I will look into getting spark plugs replaced down the road as I dont put much mileage on it right now. Im definately going to try and learn how to change my oil.

I have to ask, how about the other routine maintence items like oil changes, trans service and coolant? Most air filters are pretty easy to service yourself and since you go so far on an air filter a K&N filter is something you should consider as you can go up to 50k between cleanings, just check it out once or twice a year and go from there.

If you want a cleanable one, skip the K&N and look at Amsoil EAA air filters. If they make one for your car.

Otherwise just replace it with a normal paper one like you would get from the dealer or auto zone. These ones aren't cleanable, you replace them like evey 12k miles.

Ya! Another fellow amsoil guy!!! Amsoil filters are a dry filter. Just blow out rinse out with water every 20k miles. Amsoil is good stuff! Get to know a dealer and you can buy it there stuff at cost. Dads gone 70k without an oil change just replaces the dual remote canisters ever 20k miles! Beats changing 3 gallons of oil every 10k miles!
There airfilters hod the same quality as the rest of their products. Run all there stuff in everyone of my vehicles.

(And for the 70k oil comment read into it before you post hate mail or put the ol faithful I change mine 3levery 3-5k regardless of what they say.... this isnt 1960 anymore man made has come a looooong way)

Another big item for any vag car is using factory plugs.... the upgrads auto zone trys to sell as better will yeild negative results they are programmed and tune with x spark plug and need x spark plug...

Have you noticed a big loss in performance?
The diverter valves are natorious for going bad and wikk yeild terrible mpg as well as power.
