Alcohol, LSP Question

I figured I'd bump this thread, see if I get any hits.

What exactly is an IPA wipedown for?

After you use your polish, to remove all residue?

Currently, I'll wash a car with Dawn, clay the car and rinse really well, polish/correct, then wash again with a fresh batch of Dawn. After this, I'll dry the car and then go with an LSP.

Is the Dawn strong enough to remove any residue leftover from the correction process? I've done this countless times and never encountered an issue, but there may be something I'm missing or not seeing.

you can wash the car or do a wipedown to remove the polish oils before lsp.

washing the car takes longer since you have to dry but is sometimes the better option if there is a lot of dust from compounding/polishing...

I agree with what a lot of people are saying. Most people use IPA after compounding/polishes to remove the oils in the polishes to ensure a proper bond between the wax/sealant and the paint. Most car shampoo's try NOT to strip wax. I would go with Chemical Guys Wash and Clear as your wash to help remove wax, claying will help remove whats left, then polishing will for sure remove whatever is left. Then use a pre-wax cleaner to remove the oils before applying a wax

Does anyone have any input as to what the best wash is?

Would a Dawn wash be enough, or do you need something beefier to remove the oils?

Ideally I would like to limit the amount of contact made with the paint, so an IPA wipedown might work, I'm just worried about the possibility of marring a freshly polished finish that has no protection.

Simply put, what is the most efficient and safe way to remove polishing oils, from something like the M105/205 combo or Menzerna IP/805RD?

[I hate to beat a dead horse, I've just been running around in circles trying to decide between IPA, dawn wash, or a pre-wax cleaner]
