First impressions I love the CG micro fiber cutting pads and the V34 cutting compound. I did a 2-3section passes on just the hatch area tonight. It wipes off easily-the paint looks so much better. It still has some micro marring and light marks from the 34 but the 38 Polish is suppose to remove that. I don't know yet.

Bad part of the first day. All backing plates aren't created equally. As I needed a 5" one to fit my pads I picked up the only one I could find. It was from Harbor Freight (I know they get a lot of love/hate comments but I thought a backing plate was relativly simple tool) it melted and started throwing small rubber chunks onto the paint. I will be ordering a polyurethane backing plate tonight :-(. Once it arrives I'll get back to work.

The pictures are all reflection shots with just the v34. Straight down with the flash I could still see the micro marring. On with the pics

Ya, the backing plates on HF polishers are not good. That's why people always tell you to purchase a good backing plate when you buy one of their polishers (that are supposed to be an excellent product for the super low price they sell at).

That happens alot to LC flat pads after decent amount of use. Looks just like that.

I just posted in a diff thread, look up astro pneumatic. if you shop the big A and have prime,, I got 2 at 8 bucks each with free shipping. they are every bit as good as CG or MEGS,, he!! they are probably all made in the same plant in china.

You get what you pay isn't really always accurate. That polisher is as good as many others that cost more

The backing plate sucks but it isn't the one that came on the polisher

Used it on my own car to test. I don't try new things on other peoples cars.

I posted to let others know. Wasn't really asking for advice. I knew it probably wasn't the best plate but I thought it would suffice on a DA. It is built for a rotary. I mistakenly thought if it'd could handle a rotary it should handle a DA

Before it failed it worked fine . Will I buy another backing plate like that? No. Is it a big deal? No. Did I hopefully help others to steer clear of this plate? I hope so

So you think the $20 5 gallon car wash buckets are better than the $5 ones? They do have a cool logo but my buckets holds my wash water and grit guard superbly

Those CG MF pads are actually Buff & Shine microfiber pads. The reason I say this is so that you can find a B&S backing plate to use with them. IME, these pads don't play well with most other backing plates, though they're awesome on the FLEX 3401.

Whenever possible, it's best to use backing plates and pads from the same manufacturer.

Before this thread I never thought I'd purchase a backing plate from HF but you never what you'll do in a pinch and I learned not to purchase a HF backing plate so I'd say this thread is a success. Thanks for the thread brother.

I use the cg evolve and love them. I like the deeper foam allowing them to contour with body lines. and they are a taller pad. which means the tool is further away from the painted surface. and they have great durability.

Those plates are another product that CG doesn't actually make. They are sold by almost every detailing supplier, including here at AG. That being said, they (referring to the generic version), are awesome backing plates, and one of my personal favorites! Used the ~3" and ~5" versions today, in fact!

I should clarify a bit here...

I am in no way knocking CG by saying they don't manufacture certain products. I think it's great that they are able to put their own name on different products. It makes a brand look cohesive. I just like to know where my products actually come from, not so I can bypass the middle man, just for sake of knowing...
