@#$%! All my swirls back in one wipe-down!

Yea, Nissan paint is HORRIBLY soft so your G35 will get swirls by just driving past dust haha, so I'm not really sure what you could do other than taking EXTREEEEM care

I have not experienced the staining problem with NXT, but I know that others have experienced this problem. It's probably best to avoid getting it on the trim if one possibly can, and if one does accidentally get it on the trim, to wipe it off as quickly as possible.

I think NXT is kind of hard on plastic trim because it's a white-colored wax so as soon as you hit some trim by accident, you instantly see the stain that it's going to make. It's funny you guys bring this up because over the week-end I spent quite a bit of time applying Mothers Back to Black to the trim around the side mirrors, and trying to clean the trim around the wipers with Windex Auto and then a coat of 303 Aerospace.

lgtspecb, I really like both cars. The G35 is the sportier of the two with the better clutch and tranny feel, the louder exhaust, the tighter ride, etc. etc. The WRX is the more practical of the two with the 4-door convenience, decent trunk space, 4WD, better fuel economy, etc. I still haven't figured out which one is quicker but if I had to drive one car 365 days a year, it would be the WRX. I guess that's why the WRX is financed and the G35 is leased and goes back in July.

I don't want it make it sound like a case of mine is better than yours, but the 09's have a bit more power, tighter clutch, stiffer suspension and much better tires. Of course, if I had to choose between my two cars, I would take the Legacy hands down. I've always been interested in the Z's/G's but all I have driven is a base first year of the new gen (no lsd), it was quick but tires would slip like crazy, still a nice ride. I'm sure the Z's and definitely the G's have come a long way since then.

Yeah I'm curious of how much better the new 2009 model is compared to the 2008. While I have no complaints in the handling and acceleration department, I also wouldn't complain about 265hp, stiffer suspension, and 225/45-17 summer tires. :D

The G35 Coupe needs the LSD. The rear tires are just a tad narrow and the car needs all the traction it can get. The LSD works nicely but also makes the car very tail-happy. There are just serious quality issues inside and outside of this car where cost-cutting should not have taken place. I have clear-coat failure in one or two areas and some interior materials are garbage. The Subaru has almost zero vibrations whereas the G35 is a chatterbox over rough roads.

nxt contains fillers, and that is why it stains soo bad....poliseal is designed to be used with a da polisher, if you want to get any correction from the poliseal, you need to use a da machine....

I guess I've been lucky with my 05 G Cpe., it seems as tight as the day I bought it and there are no issues with the paint job.

I resurrected this thread from a few months ago, because it seems like the thread starter has the same issues I did.

1) Did he truly remove the swirls after polishing? i.e. was an IPA wipedown conducted? Because I asked the same question and perhaps the swirls "re"appeared because they were never removed in the first place... just like mine (black care too).

2) Sounds like the dusting issue is what all of us extreme detailing perfectionists have issues with DUST. So... here's my question... WHAT CAN ONE DO TO GET RID OF DUST? Dust from driving one or two days... no rain dirt, no caked on dirt... I'm talking just basic dust accumulation. If QD'ing is not recommended because of swirl induction, then is the ONLY true solution to remove dirt performing a WASH? (ONR or regular foam)

If I remember correctly, after polishing with Poli-Seal, even though Poli-Seal leaves a sealant behind, I did an alcohol wipe-down and applied two coats of Meg's NXT 2.0 so the NXT had a clean to surface to bond to.

I recently re-polished the G35 Coupe with a White Lake Country Polishing Pad, my PC7424, and Optimum Poli-Seal. Results were not perfect, but a huge improvement and a damn decent up-close-and-personal paint job on my Obsidian Black vehicle. Unfortunately, yesterday I went to do a wipe-down using ONR as a quick detailer (makes for a nice waterless wash). Towards the end of the wipe-down, I was trying to buff out a streak of dirt that was a bit stubborn and I noticed that going over the area was causing new scratches. I went back and looked at the whole vehicle and apparently there were scratches EVERYWHERE! And they were all in the exact directions in which I had wiped my towel after spraying on the ONR!

Why the #### is my clearcoat so sensitive to scratches? In one single wipe-down I ruined all the hard work I did with the Poli-Seal and my Porter Cable. Unbelievable.

I stopped doing ONR washes on my car because I kept finding random scratches afterwards. My cars paint is very touchy too.

But did you check (via halogen light) after your wipedown whether or not the swirls were truly gone?

I think NXT may be the problem. NXT does have chemical cleaners and a mild abrasive action so it wouldn't be completely non abrasive to the surface.

That's the reason I never use any sealant/ wax with cleaning/ polishing abilities, no matter how mild.

My garage has flourescent lights all over the ceiling and I was using twin 500W halogen lights and the flourescents to inspect my work after each 2x2 section. I remember doing a final inspection after I finished polishing, and then I did the alcohol wipe and applied the NXT Tech Wax immediately after. I would have seen the swirls and scratches when applying the NXT as my G35 Coupe (when I had it, I don't have it anymore) was flat black and it was very easy to see the scratches and swirls.

Fillers can help hide scratches but they never really do that much, in my opinion. They only reduce the scratches, they never eliminate them. I have no clue if Poli-Seal actually has any fillers to begin with. And they won't hide the haze on the vehicle that Poli-Seal had no trouble removing.

You need to re-read this thread. The car was semi-dirty, has a soft clear-coat, is black and was only wiped down with ONR. ONR won't remove wax or sealants, especially at QD strength.

I think that the safest way to remove dust is by washing, no other way. I have a black car, that lives outside at night, and I just have to live with the fact that it can only get washed once a week on weekends. If it is dusty, I put up with it. To put things into perspective also, I did a full detail in March of this year- paint correction, sealed up and waxed. The car get s washed every week or every second week at worst and after 5 months there is some minor swirling coming back. Bottom line, if you are touching the paint, then over time it will swirl up.

YOu can do things to minimise swirls.... 2 bucket method, use a pressure washer to blast the dirt and even a foam gun (which I will be getting in the next few weeks). This will minimise swirling but over time it will come back.......

Yep... I have to agree with you. We need to live with dust... :( I have always been an avid QD'er, but I think I may have to rethink that strategy. Washing would be the best solution. I have just recently got a foam gun, and am just now getting used to using it. I still plan on using the foam gun as a presoak... let it sit for a bit as I get the 2 bucket method ready... wash vehicle as normal... then do the sheeting method to help dry.

Yep, my plan will be foam gun to pre-soak the car, then blast off with pressure washer, 2 bucket method, rinse, dry and QD or Aquawax.

Good idea on the pressure washer after the foam gun. I should have thought about that since I do have a pressure washer. I should have bought the foam canon instead... sigh...

You know, I know that the foam gun is about $150 Aussie dollars, but the time it takes for a full polish / swirl removal is about 2 days worth. If I can minimise that, then it is worth it....... that is my opinion anyways. Plus, it actually looks like alot of fun too !
