How's it going AG?
I've been trying my darnest to get the hang of things with this combo for the past 4 months. Initially, I had the same problems many of you have stated with excessive dusting and short working time,

Our buddy touscoraDave, was able to somewhat hip me to things and suggested I try the KB method, which I did and thought I had "gotten it". Well that was short lived when I saw one of the clients vehicles on the road two months later with halograms all over. Yea, I called him and was able to correct the flaws with my original 3m combo.

Well, in the past week I've read nearly every pertenant thread about the Megs and saw every video also, and thought I was more than prepared for my early morning client, WRONG!!!

Holograms once again with the 105. Although, this time I must say, I was able to get a decent working time with my "properly" primed pads. Soo... I'm guessing that was a positive thing.

Guys I'm not ready to give up on these products at all. I feel that with a little more guidance/practice I will have it down pack!!

I am using a rotary with LC Ccs pads. If you all have any suggestions please help me out...

Do you have a DA? It's most likely that your causing the holograms because your finishing with the rotary. Dont take offence to that, most people cant finish holgram free on the rotary. I dont think its the products thats causing the results.

M105/205 are known to have polishing oils in them that fill and hide defects. So at first it looks as if you achieved a swirl free finish, free of holgrams, and then later when the oils are gone, the true finish is revealed. Do multiple IPA wipedowns after polishing or a wash with a strong shampoo such as CG Citrus Wash to get rid of any polishing oils.
 
A few that may or may Not help you. I use a spray of pinnacle polishing pad conditioner each section. My personal results also found 105 to be more pressure sensitive than speed sensitive.... So the last two passes I progressivly lighten up the pressure I found the CCS pads to not be the best for me. I have been using LC VC pads with much better result with all polishes, especially with the 105. So maybe a pad change may help you. Just some of my own experiences that may help you out here.
 
Hey, thanks for the input fellas. And no offense taken, man I'm all about "calling it like it is" which it very well may be my techniques causing these holograms. VW, you asked of I had a Pc, Yes and I also have been playing around with the 3401 I won in the contest, thanks Nick. Anyhow, what's your suggestion, cut with the rotary and polish with Pc????. Idk man, I'm really trying to keep the Pc for wax/sealant only. I Think the main reason I'm still attempting to use the twins are because of the time saved polishing/buffing when using with a rotary.

However, like I always say, I'm open to trying different things to improve my skills.

DrOldz, I might just have to start looking into some new pads, intact, now that youVe mentioned that, I've never tried any other pads besides the Ccs with the negs. I'll have to pull out some of the oldies tomorrow.

It is usually much easier to get a hologram-free finish by polishing with a DA. With a Flex 3401, I doubt you will notice any difference in polishing time by switching from the rotary w/105 to the 3401 w/205. I say, try the 105 with the rotary and the 205 with the 3401. Or heck, try the 3401 with both! You'll be surprised with the power of that Flex :xyxthumbs:
 
The easy fix is 105 rotary 205 da, or stick with the rotary and really focus on the amount of pressure your applying
 
As already stated, definitely give the 3401 and 205 a try! To me thats an amazing combo. The Flex will give good correction even with 205 and get rid of any holograms left over by the rotary.
 
Yea, I've yet to find the time to figure out the ranges of this flex. I'll tell you what, tomorrow is the day. My mobile unit needs some attention ASAP.
 
Okay, so when y'all say, be cautious to the amount of pressure, are you implying that I'm using too much or not enough?
 
Has anyone used 105/205 with Tangerine and Cyan Hydro Pads?

I have a Makita 9227, and been using LCC CCS Pads. I picked up the hydropads to see if they can finish nicer in 2 steps than PFW/Orange/White and Black.

(I'm still going to be jeweling the paint with PO85RD and Gold LCC CCS Pad)
 
I often use 205 on a tangerine Hydro pad. The combo works well with a rotary, but I prefer it with my Flex 3401. The cut is almost the same, and I'm sure to avoid holograms. 105 I prefer on a purple wool pad.

The 205/tangerine combination can be used as a one step for quick jobs, where you still get decent correction for the amount of shine.
 
Well alot of people know im not a fan of 105. Why i dont like it, is its to temprimental when it comes to temperature.

Its kind of a drama queen, too hot, it dusts and drys up on the buffing cycle after not even your first section pass. Not to mention that the dried 105 is a nightmare to get off. Having to use alot of pressure on the towel to remove.

There are FAR easier more user friendly products, that work wet with a long buff cycle, little to no dusting, easy wipe off etc.

And its not 105s fault, your rotary is installing the holograms.

Like Mike Phillips says and does, he cuts with a rotary and finishes with a DA.

And i quote the awesome talented Jeff Brown "trying to finish with a rotary is like a dog chasing his own tail"

trying to finish with a rotary is tough, and depending on polishing systems and paint your working on can sometimes require 3 polishing steps to properly get them out.

And even then you can still be left with holograms that you cant see at that time, due to polishing oils, wax lighting.

If you use the rotary cut with it. And finish with the da polisher and your problems are solved.

No matter what compound or polish you use with the rotary your going to leave holograms.

Especially on certain paint systems that are more prone to holograms, some paints are almost near impossible to finish hologram free.
