I purchased the Porter Cable polisher. It came with 2 "bonus" micro fiber bonnets. What

are they used for? It also came with a polishing pad that mounts directly to machine (not

the hook and loop) Does anyone use that pad? What grade might it be? Its white if that

helps. Thanks in advance

The pad you have is to be used with 2 micro fiber bonnets. It is not to be used as polishing pad. Do NOT loose the washer. It must be used with any new hook and loop backing plate.

You can use the bonnets over the stock pad to remove polishes, and waxes. Personally I prefer to do that by hand, but maybe you will like it!

Got it. Thank you very much. I will remove by hand as well.

The washer you're referring to is the one that's already on the white stock pad, right? Or is there a different washer? I haven't used my PC yet but I plan to later in February.

Thanks,

Barry

The hook and loop plate on mine already has a washer on it. It looks like its

purpose is to create clearance between the back of it and the machine. So for mine I

shouldn't need the one from the white polishing pad

Ok, thanks... I wasn't sure which washer we needed to use. I bought the LC hook and loop plate and it came with a washer too.

The washer that comes with the Porter Cable 7424 polisher ensures a gap between the backing plate and the metal housing from what I can tell.

What I also can tell you is not all their polishers "need" it because I lost mine years ago. When I mount a backing plate I still have sufficient gap between the plate and the housing. :dunno:

If I have a 5 inch backing plate, should I have a 5 inch pad? The PC came with a 5" backing plate and two 6.5" pads. So I'm thinking it's right but .....

You could use the 6.5 inch pads with a 5 inch backing plate, but I prefer the 5.5 inch pads with the 5 inch backing plate. Also, you are going to have better "correcting" ability with a smaller pad, since there is less mass for the machine to move - or so I've read.

less mass to move and better correction since under pressure, more surface area of the 5.5 inch pads will compress.

I don't think you'll like spinning 6.5 inch pads on a PC, even if you had the proper 6 inch backing plate.

Is there a reason why you say don't use the white polishing pad for polishing? My understanding is that it's just a normal lake country pad made for pc. And oriellys automotive sells them.

same texture as a white lc pad just thicker, havent used it i ripped the plastic backing plate off of it,trimmed it down with a lathe tool and my drill and applied velcro, will fit 4" pads now.
