Alright rotary users, I need some advice

wool pads (for me) are easier to control. they dont jump and grab the paint like foam does. also they get the job done quicker than foam IMO. if you come across an extremly oxidized or scratched paint job go straight to wool. it will cut through it quick. and the MENZ line is great

Toto your info is awesome:applause: . You should really, really, really consider writing a "How To" for using a rotary in the Detailing or Auto Detailing University Forum. I know how much I appreciate your info and I am sure others would be just as grateful. Many of us want to use the rotary but the info is so much more limited than the info for the PC. Someone with your knowledge and experience could really help out us newbs to the rotary. You have really cleared up a lot about wool for me. Heck I'm gaining confidence and have yet to officially use the rotary yet. Knowledge before the fact makes things so much less scary.

thanks wolfpacker92,,,,I appreciate the compliments a ton!

I really have to thank the BMW dealer I work for. He taught me more about detailing and reconditioning than I ever knew. The guy has 32 years of car experience, so the lessons are all appreciated by me.

I was as timid as everyone else about a rotary and I think the turning point was getting the Metabo and starting out with the small backing plates and pads. You have a ton more control of the machine and the learning curve is quicker. Plus, the DeWalt felt so clumsy to me! Now, I can use either one with confidence and ease.

I think someone with video experience could do a nice how-to. The dealer's son is a photo pro IMO...maybe I'll talk to him about it.

See ya folks!

You actually *don't* want to use a screwdriver to "clean" a wool pad as it will likely untwist any twists in the wool and make the cut level of the pad diminish. A wool pad spur or the System 2000 pad cleaner is the way to go. They pad cleaner also is a good way to "break in" new pads as it eliminates a lot of the shedding.

SpoiledMan: You are correct Sir!....my bad (and laziness on using a screwdriver). Also, thanks for the tip on System2000 pad cleaner. I get a lot of shedding on new pads.

Toto, the pad cleaner would be excellent for you as I'm sure you go through enough pads to hate cleaning them.:)
