Alternative "clay" products

I bought the kit with Nanoskin medium & fine sponges.

Does the medium just get used on more contaminated cars? Does the fine do anything the medium doesn't?

I've been wiping off the Nanoskin after every pass to make sure I'm not dragging contaminants across the paint. Is that what everyone else does?

Using the mantra of "always use the least aggressive product", it's just something that you'd need to test. Yes, more neglected cars with more bonded contaminants may need the medium over the light. My personal experience is there isn't much I haven't been able to remove effectively with just the light 6" pad and touched up with the towel.

I was using Nanoskin fine grade sponge, after chinese friends started producing cheap alternative 12X12 towel and the same size as original Nanoskin mitt never used the sponge again.

I love my Nanoskin fine grade mitt...just wash the car - foam cannon it again and go over it with the nanoskin mitt and your done...doesn't get any easier.

I just bought the blue (fine grade) optimum clay towel.. any tip on how to store it after use..?

I tried the cobra clay mitt on a neglected Sierra. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed. Used it on glass first to condition it, and attempted decontaminating the hood. A follow up with clay showed too much left behind for me to comfortably use it again.

I may try it for light work. Maybe the nanoskin is much different. However I've stuck to regular clay just out of confidence.

Mitt for me. So much faster than clay. It does take multiple passes to get everything, even with a medium mitt. Pretty sure I want a clay pad for my DA. Where I live claying is needed at least once a year. I could easily be doing to 2+ times.

Another +1 for the Nanoskin fine grade sponge.

Been using it for the past couple months as per the instructions and it works great -I use it with my car soap and what I further appreciate is on the rare occasions when it pops out of my hand - no worries - I just wash that sucker off and we're back in business.

I do however have clay in my arsenal as back up. However I never had a situation to date where I had to break it out

I have a nanoskin fine mitt and a cobra clay mitt. In my experience nanoskin is far superior because it works much faster and better. My BIL and I did his truck that is an '06 and had never been clayed. I had the cobra and he used my nanoskin. He got the truck done in the time it took me to do a few small sections and still had to go over what I had been working on. Both mitts were broken in by using them on glass.

How do you break them in in glass? Should i apply heavy pressure? And what happens if i use a brand new clay towel directly on the paint without the "break in" step?
