Alternative to clay bar that wont leave paint marring.

I'm not too worried about microscopic marring when people don't even know what swirling is.

This. Forensic Detailing did a video and used a microscopic camera on his laptop to show the scratches induced by claying on a test panel. Using real clay lube made an enormous difference in reducing scratches over random detailing sprays or soapy water.

If you use a clay alternative (Nano Skin) with a lot of lube and sort of flush the surface the chances of trapping debris between the pad/towel and paint is greatly minimized.

Agree or you can clay with ready made soap in a couple of bottles.As you rub flush with water the same time.Did this yesterday on a 16 m3 with overspray.The clay I could hear the friction so I changed my strategy to this with the bottles. Sprayway foam glass cleaner is awesome clay lube.Cheaper than lube and no marring. I used nano skin on carbon roof and blue auto magic clay on body.Through on some fourststar for slickness see you later.

What about soapy water?

Never tried with soapy water as I'm not a fan of claying while washing.

Obviously getting as much of the bonded contaminates off chemically as possible before claying will greatly reduce the chances of marring (IronX/TarX).

Me too. I just finished testing mother’s speed clay 2.0. Couple of findings:
- i used optimum car wax as lube (clay as u wax) and i was generous with the spray wax. I found out that what optimum says as “less is better” is true. I had a hard time buffing of this SPRAY WAX
- the shape of the speed clay makes it hard to clay even the shallow contours like my ribbed roof
