okay so monday i started the whole process before applying Cquartz. I washed with dawn/APC, ironX, Clay, IPA, Cquartz. I am using an 11% IPA solution. My microfiber sticks to the paint when doing the wipedown, previously i have marred what i had just polished before applying #20 about a month ago. I tried to be a little more carefull and i was using brand new Cobra MF's this time. But still i got some marring, not too bad though, but it was just very very difficult. I have been thinking about an alternative, heres what i am thinking...

Buy a box if glass cleaning wipes, let them dry out in the sun while still in the container. Then pour my 11% IPA solution in the container and let the wipes absorb. I dont want to completely drench them, just get them moist like they are supposed to be. Then i would have disposable wipes out of a dispensing container, when i need a new one just pull it out. Would this work? I really hope i can figure out something besides MF and a spray bottle with IPA.

Give me your opinions on my idea, I may be off my rocker but i may have a good idea:dblthumb2:

I've read where some people have used OPC instead of IPA.

I have used 3:1 OPC with no problems. I also have followed up with 25% IPA misted on to car and wiped off with MF - no sticking. I am no sure about marring since I have a white car, but I don't think so. I was following up with OC.

Chris@Optimum: To prep surface: spray each panel with Power Clean full strength, wash with power clean (1 oz per gallon of water in place of your normal wash bucket), then rinse thoroughly. Take care not to wash in direct sunlight or apply to hot panels.

My paint always is sticky with IPA for some reason. I think next i am just going to foam with dawn or OPC and rinse VERY well and blot dry. I have dark metallic blue paint and i swear it shows marring more than black, its crazy hard to keep clean and swirl free.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I picked up some p21s TAW and I found a post on Autopia talking about using TAW at 10:1 as an IPA alternative. Has any one ever tried this, if so how did it work out?

I am going to try it out next weekend but being a novice I am not sure I would know a 100% that the polishing oils were removed.

I have applied it full strength with no issues. Griots Pre Wax Cleanser too. Car Pro Eraser is also great. Menzerna Top Inspection may work too.

Griots pre wax is what I use and is cost effective. I highly recommend using the griots sprayer head, it flat ot works and sprays a fine mist.

Don't remember just who it was but their signature was "IPA is for zits". With the new Car Pro Eraser this is now truer then ever. LOL. I tried the Eraser which came in my last order and it has earned a place in my arsenal. Thanks to Tom Weed for the tip.

Well it sounds like the votes are in and CarPro eraser will be in my next order. I loved Iron X so I guess it is time to add more of their line to my collection.

I love Griots but I thought the Griots product had to be washed off afterwards and I really want a WOWO type product.

Thanks everyone

eraser is between 30-50% IPA but it may have other lubricants in it that would help prevent marring from the wipedown

I've never tried it personally, but didn't someone on here post about using glass cleaner as a paint cleaning material prior to LSP?

I believe that I also saw that posting.
I, too, have never intentionally used glass/window cleaners for paint inspection (cleaning)/wipedown purposes....Even though I've seen folks at car shows spray down their entire vehicles with it!

Most glass/window cleaners have a certain % of IPA in them...it's the other ingredients in these glass/window cleaners, and the possibility of their un-evaporated residues being left behind on the paint (that might inhibit the inspection process to some extent) that raises concerns for me.

Here's a few:

ClearVue Professional:
Isopropyl alcohol (1-3%) -(Alcohol)
2-butoxyethanol (0.5-1%) - (Dissolution promoter)
Propylene glycol methyl ether (3-5%)
Acetone (1-3%) -non-polar solvent
Water

Windex Blue:
2-butoxyethanol (0-2%) - dissolution promoter
Isopropyl alcohol (0-3%) - alcohol
Ammonia - emulsifier
Water

Windex Commercial:
2-butoxyethanol (0.5-1.5%)
Ethylene glycol hexyl ether (0.5-1.5%) - solvent
Isopropyl alcohol (1-5%)
Ammonia
Water

Windex with Vinegar:

2-butoxyethanol (5-10%)
Acetic acid (0-0.25%) -Descaler
Ammonia
Water

Stoner Invisible Glass:
Isopropyl alcohol
2-butoxyethanol
Acetone
Water

Armor All Auto Glass Cleaner:
Isopropyl alcohol (1-5%)
Propylene glycol butyl ether (1-5%)

Eagle One 20/20:
Isopropyl alcohol
Glycol ether

Westley's Glass Cleaner:
2-butoxyethanol (5%)
Isopropyl alcohol (5-20%)
Sodium alkyl olefin sulfonate (1-5%) -Surfactant
Other surfactant (1-5%)

3M Glass Cleaner concentrate:
2-butoxyethanol (20-40%)
Acetone (20-40%)
Isopropyl alcohol (20-40%)

Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision:
2-butoxyethanol (0.5-1%)
Methyl alcohol (10-15%)
Isopropyl alcohol (20-35%)

Glass Plus (from US patent 5254284):
Silicone glycol (0.01-1%) -Anti-fogging agent
Xanthan gum (0.01-1%) -Anti-fogging agent

Castrol Accuvision
Propylene glycol butyl ether (0-5%)
Isopropyl alcohol (0-5%)
Ethylene glycol (0-2%)
Proprietary additives (0-5%)

NOTE:
If I decide I'm going to use IPA for inspection purposes/wipedowns, I'd rather mix-up a batch of my own....diluted at the recommended ratios, of course, instead of a glass/window cleaner. Just saying....

That was me with that signature. It went away when Michael13 finised putting together my website.

I may have recently mentioned using glass cleaner. It works well for me.

Griot's Pre-Wax for me since I have plenty ...do not have Car Pro. It seems to work.
