Hi,

I'm trying to repair the small nicks in my aluminum door trim pictured below. There is some depth to them but they aren't very deep. I took the vehicle to an auto-body shop and they told me that the best solution given their small size was to fill them in with magic marker.

Do folks on this forum agree with that suggestion?

Thanks

What are we looking at? I'm trying to visualize the piece but this photo is too close and dark.

What year is your vehicle? Aluminum trim hasn't been used in AGES. Unless you mean "chrome" trim which is basically plastic with a chrome film over it. But then again it looks painted, which is why the body shop recommended a magic marker?

I'm confused...

You're looking at the top right corner of the driver-side door. My vehicle is a 2017 model.

The auto-body shop told me the trim was aluminum and that it would not rust. Do you think they're incorrect?

Here's another photo with the driver side door open if helpful.

If it is aluminum it will oxidize but it will not be nearly as destructive as oxidation on steel.

It could cause the chips to grow, but it will be at a fairly slow rate as compared to rust on steel.

I would get a paint pen from a craft store, or some touch up paint.

Something like Testors enamel paint for models would work.
