Lots and lots in the media in Norway and probably elsewere i Europe about David Beckhams signing for LA Galaxy, how about it guys/girls, will it make you skip your other national sports and become soccer fans? or at least lend it an eye or ear in the next seasion?

As understod, has he signed to an club in the US because he means that the potential in the US regarding soccer is way, way less than it should.

So it will be fun to follow him when he starts playing for LA galaxy, he is/was HUGE here in Europe, and was a great player both for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

the problem with soccer is that it isnt publicized enough here. i think its a cool sport, but watching usa teams play isnt very fun.

Now Ill watch beckham destroy them lol :D

I love soccer. It's my favorite sport to watch, but I don't have cable so unless I watch Mexican soccer on the spanish channels I don't get to see anything until the world cup. I wish I could get the European matches though. I love to watch the Brazilians. Although Ronaldo is getting totally lazy. I was so disappointed in him this last world cup. :(

I hope Beckam can show the Americans some good tricks. They just can't compete on the world level at this point in time.

No. Not a fan of Nascar or Hockey either.

Basketball and Football really. I'll watch a few Cubs games with some friends, but I watch and study other players films like a bible. Hardcore basketball fan for sure.

It has become common for children to play soccer here. As the generations get older I suspect pro soccer will become more popular in the USA. However, there is a lot to compete with all of the other traditional US sports.

If theres one sport I can't stand to watch its soccer, not sure why, just so borring to me. But I'm not much a sports guy either even though I used to play baseball and hockey. My old office, there was a company that had a bunch of Brazillians that worked there, when the World Cup was on I swear they didn't work and stayed in the lobby the whole time watching the game and going nutz lol.

I'm all about surfing, auto racing (with turns lol), Baja, Dirt Bikes etc. We had a huge superbowl party and I watched maybe 5 minutes of it before getting bored and went outside to chill at our pool area and turned on a movie on the tv out there lol. But then people were going in and out so they wanted the game on out there, I couldn't win lol.

They have tryed this before pele didnt do anything before so why will this be different

Truls, he better be great for all the money they are paying him. I liked to play soccer when I was a kid but I don't care to watch it on TV much. I went to a hockey game today. It's a fun game to watch live.

Beckham isn't exciting enough. He doesn't have the dribbling skills of the Brazilians to make the game exciting. Americans like to see action like in basketball pple go crazy when someone get's their ankles broken. It would be more exciting to have the Brazilians over here doing their dribbling moves and breaking ankles. But the USA doesn't really understand the game of soccer to begin with because it's all about scoring for them and if that doesn't happen it's boring. American's do not understand things like how great a pass was and how a string of passes can lead to no goal but still be exciting. I actually enjoy watching soccer and understand the game. It's weird how Americans pick their sports. I can understand why pple like to watch football, basketball and hockey but there are sports like baseball and nascar that I will never understand. Baseball is boring to ME because there's really only 1 guy who's doing most of the work while everyone watches and hopes the other guy hits the ball. Nascar I really do not understand, it's cars going in a circle at crazy high speeds. I'm not sure what's so fun about that. I do however like to watch rally races though. Rally races seem more enjoyable to watch because most things are unpredictable. Just by two cents.

They say that the pele effect made some good players 25 years later (good national team early/mid 90`s). That can also be the Beckham effect, kids dig it, but the adults keep watching the "regular" US sports.

Gary: US had the soccer as a hype (70`s/80`s) but they went down because high salleryes, looks like they start again with Beckham. But he has a whole system behind him to create a HUGE hype around soccer. they sold 1000 seasion tickets at LA Galaxy when he signed.

I personaly think that in some years the US National team will be among the best in the world, You guys got it all "over there" you just need to fire it up, make the snowball start rolling and you guys get hucked in no time.

So as said, fun to follow up on it, and hope that it increases the interest for soccer in the US.

I do as well, I admit I do watch highlites of games.... :grouphug:

Beckham is washed up, his speed is gone his technique of what he had is gone all he has left is kicks from a standstill point. He wants to become a movie star, anyone notice he was already on a commercial during the superbowl which had nothing to do with soccer, now he has done commercial before because usualy during the euro/world cup football (soccer) players make a couple of commercials together.

I lost all respect for him when he was a little girl and went of the field during the world cup and the resigned his captain title (he hasnt been taken out for the english team since), but hey im all for Portugal so i didnt mind.

Is it really even about football with Beckham anyways? It's all about Posh baby!!!
