Howdy Folks! I'm another Floridian: from up the coast near Melbourne. I thought I knew how to wash a car until I started browsing around here. You folks have turned this into an art form! There's so much here I don't know where to begin. This is a long way from a bottle of dishwashing soap and a can of TurtleWax! :buffing:

Have you put a good coat of wax on it yet? Put some rain X the windows too. Makes driving in the rain a blast.

There are several products I could recommend. In your case, I think a good Meguiars two step paint treatment will work. Go to your local Advanced auto parts. Pick up a bottle of the Meguiars Cleaner Wax and Meguiars Deep Crystal Wax. Do a good application of the Cleaner Wax first then finish off with the Deep Crystal. This will create a nice mirror like shine and should hold up for a couple of months at most.

c'mon now...Meguiars crystal? 2 step cleaner and wax?

bignfuzzy-If you have a new ride and want to get off on the right foot and learn what this 'art form' is all about, stay away from the Autozone. Spend a couple weeks on this forum and read, read, read, search and read.
proper wash technique
clay
paint correction
sealants vs. waxes
quick detail sprays
machine polishers
microfiber

search these terms and check out the Pinnacle videos on this site or on youtube. Don't hesitate to call the autogeek customer service. this is top notch car care and these people are freaks about it! it's a frickin disease.

thats exactly what i've been doing for the past month and i've learned so much i feel like ive been ruining my cars all along

Like I said I have several recommendations and not just for you bignfuzzy. I agree with dublifecrisis that you should read read read, but for now if your not an experienced detailer the Meguiars is a great 2 step process.

Stay away from Rain-X, el crappo. That crap fogged up my windows at night time once going to the lake back in the day, oh yeh lotta fun with no lights on the streets and wiping didn't help. Did the same thing to our other vehicles.

Glass - use klasse aio, aqua wax, aquapel etc

Rain-X is a good product if applied correctly. All you need is two microfiber towels. The key is to dampen one microfiber after applying the rain-x and wipe any residue off. Lastly, follow up with the dry microfiber. Some elbow grease is required like most detailing. My dad always said, " If your not sweating your not detailing".

Hmmmmm .... Sooooo much to learn! Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. :D Now ... off to do some more reading!

Learn you must!

Since it's unlikely that I'll do any of this stuff properly the first time out, is there a way to get the Rain-X off of a windshield if it starts to cloud up? Also, should these products like Rain-X, Aqua Wax or Aquapel be applied only to the windshield, or do they get put on all of the windows?

Aquawax can be applied pretty much anywhere , I use it all the time on windows and such, I meant to get some aquapel on my last order but I'll get it here soon ,as of right now I just put duragloss 105 on it and the water runs off.

Still won't touch it, I tried damp microfiber and qd'er as well. Still fogged up, others on here had the same trouble. The product doesn't hold a candle to Aquawax or Aquapel.

It's all about preference. I prefer other products over Rain-X, but as an experienced detailer, who grew up on that stuff, I know from past experience it works if you apply it correctly. Aquapel is great but costs more. Preference.
