Another Pad Debate

Hey Guys and Gals,

I am getting ready to put in an order with AG for some more pads. I have plenty of White and Orange LC Flat Pads, but the White just simply doesn't finish down on my wife's vehicle that has soft black paint, but they work fine for my truck.

My original plan was to get another 6 pack of the LC Flat pads, but with Black and Blue pads. I have been reading so many good things about the HT pads, I am wondering if I should give them a try. Will the Crimson finish down as good as a Black pad?

I think the only thing holding me back, is I can pretty much get double the flat pads vs the HT?

for soft black paint, black and blue is the way to go

some ppl have said HT pads don't finish well on soft paints, moreso the tangerine than the crimson but I've never used HTs so can't say from experience. Alex recently did his TSX with HT pads and said the difference was night and day compared to CCS pads.

might even want to throw in an optimum finishing pad too if you're in an experimental mood

In my experience the Cyan HT pad doesn't finish down well on soft paint but the Tangerine does. I would order black and blue flat pads and also the Optimum micro fiber polishing pad, possibly 2.
 
Here's a Honda Odyssey I recently detailed. I made a quick pass using Meguiar's M205 on a Lake Country Tangerine Hydro Tech 5.5'' low profile pad. The paint isn't perfect since this wasn't a scheduled correction, I did a quick 1-step as a freebie.

Yes the Black pads is the way to go if your using that type of pad. But another one to take a look at is the LC Hydro Pad. The Lake Country Hydro-Tech 5 1/2 x 7/8 Inch Foam Pads are available in three varieties you should take a look at. The tangerine foam pad is made for light to moderate defect removal and polishing. It has the cutting power just below that of the Lake Country orange light cutting pad, and the tangerine pad leaves a finish like you'd achieve with a gray finishing pad. The Crimson foam pad is designed to apply your waxes, glazes, and sealants in flawless, even coats without causing swirls. The soft foam has very light polishing ability, making it great to use on a soft finish. Hope this helps you out.

BTW, there's no debate on pads. They are have their purpose in detailing and finding the right one with the right polish will work for you very well.
 
Cyan pads finish horrible on soft paint, IME. Not sure about the other HT pads, but I'd definitely go LC black with soft paint.
