Any Amazon Prime members?

Amazon prime pays for itself . Unfortunately, Florida residents will have to start paying sales tax when our new hub center opens. This will likely steer a few more dollars from me to Autogeek.

On the "2 day shipping," in the past couple years, they have not met the 2-day promise on roughly 10% of the shipments I've had. Other times, I get my order in 1 day.

I suppose the math about balances out, but I'd rather elect which ones I want 2-day and which ones I'd be OK with 3 or 4 day (which is most of them). It seems the ones I really need 2-day are the ones that take 3-4 days.

Maybe they should start each member with some number of shipping credits each year depending on your membership tier or past year's purchases, and when you elect 2-day shipping it subtracts credits, and when you elect 3 or 4 day it adds credits. If you have a surplus at the end of the year, it converts to x dollars off your next Amazon purchase or a video/audio/book download or whatever.

I suspect most people would be fine with 3 or 4 day shipping on most items, if you're forced to make the choice from a limited credit budget, and that would be a pretty significant cost reduction to stop the bleeding I'd think.

They also need to do a much better job of informing you before you purchase something, if it cannot possibly meet the 2-day promise due to things beyond their control.

I have heard of Prime, but never even looked into it..Sooo..what's so special about it? I'm too lazy to look it up.... :(

I live in Hawaii and Amazon Prime is (almost) essential to my existence. All Hawaii residents should get Amazon Prime.

As of January 1, 2014 we have to pay 7% sales tax in Indiana. This if coupled with a 50% increase in Prime will make Amazon less attractive. Most Prime items could get 3 day free shipping if you purchased $25 or more (total) even without a Prime membership. I wonder what will happen to this??

It used to be great but I won't be renewing... It's changed a lot over the years. Now a lot of items are "Add on" meaning you need at least a $25 order, subscribe and save discounts aren't as good as they used to be, and most recently they started charging sales tax in MA.

It was a good run but it's just not worth it for me anymore. I'll miss my UPS guy bringing presents all the time.

Don't forget if amazon misses the 2 day delivery let them know and they will add an extra month to your prime. We have had 5 late delivery this year and they have added 5 extra months. Not a bad deal

wow great to know. i've gotten about 1/4 of my orders in one day and the rest in 2 days. such a great service and under student the price is too good to pass up even though i don't shop that much off amazon

Woah! Had no idea about the missed delivery date thing! Thanks for that info. I love Amazon prime. It has more than paid for itself with how much we order as well. We have ordered some big stuff too for my daughter.

the price increase makes me sad. I wish there was a Prime option where it didn't include Amazon instant video. I never use the video, and would love to save the extra money there.

Later prime, haven't received an email stating that yet, heresay?

That article says it's the first time they've (amazon) flexed their muscles; that's simply not true.

When I started my student prime membership in 09, I got the AZ credit card and got a free $100 gift card. My brother got the same credit card last year and got $25, but I've heard some say as low as $10. It's not based on your credit either, just their promotions.

When I first paid for my membership, I was allowed 2 day shipping free, $3.99 for one day. The first change I noticed was when they started charging 8.99 for Saturday delivery. I used to order on Thursday and get the item on Saturday without paying the 3.99.

Then they added the streaming video. Well, sorry buddy, but I've got all the streaming services I need. Prime is a free shipping service, not a free shipping and streaming video service.

About this time, they tried to bargain with us, and say something to this effect: "if you don't mind getting this item in 5 days, we'll add $0.99 to your amazon music account" Basically, we'll give you a free song if you take 3 extra days to get your item.

Students can no longer share their memberships.

Free shipping for items that don't qualify for prime is now $35- used to be 25.

S&S is 15% if you order 5 or more in one month. Ridiculous.

And don't even get me started on the "Add-on" program. First, this line is flat out cocky.

"This item is available because of the Add-on program
The Add-on program allows Amazon to offer thousands of low-priced items that would be cost-prohibitive to ship on their own."

Well, that's funny because I used to get these same items sent to me free, with 2 day shipping. Now you want to let me know that I am being offered these same items because of your new program. Interesting. But, I literally cannot get the $5 item until I've spent $25 with your company. Even then, they will ship the items separately anyway. There's no telling how many times I've added some $30 item to my order just to get the small item I want, and the small item comes in a separate box.

Bait and Switch: (noun)
the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods that are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods.

If this definition applies to a service, then they've fallen right into this definition. A few of the changes happened when I was in the middle of my paid term. Unacceptable.

Needless to say, they won't be losing me with a rate hike; they lost me a long time ago. I don't think they care though.

Amazon is still not turning a profit.

Prime is no longer just a free shipping service. It is a subscription to access higher benefits at a company - akin to a Costco membership card. You pay x amount of dollars, here is everything we offer you. Amazon is spending a lot of money to try and secure licensing for shows and movies so that you have more incentive to pay for Prime. I think it's much more valuable than before. I gladly pay the full price, and I will pay when they increase it too. You're correct students and Amazon Mom members cannot share their memberships - families/households can now, so I feel like that's another win on their part.

I find plenty of items under 25 that ship free with prime.

100 pack of black nitrile gloves - 11 dollars, 2 day shipping, thanks Prime.

Cabin Air Filter, Spray Bottles, Guitar Tuner, Flash Drive, etc, all free to ship and under 15 dollars.

It might not be valuable to you, but that does not make it a bait and switch. That is a term people love to throw around when they're not happy with a retailer. Bait and switch would be if Amazon put a TV on sale for 100 dollars, then when you went to purchase it they would say "Sorry... we ran out and we're sending you this 2 inch black and white monitor instead."
Amazon has provided me with exceptional value and customer service at literally every point I could ask for. Prices and services change, unfortunately. It's just a matter of reevaluating if it's still worth it, which I believe it is, and want to make sure other people hear the other side of the story.

I'm sorry you're unhappy with what is one of my top five companies to do business with!

I have the Prime Trial Membership right now. The college student point makes sense and since I am a college student I might consider just biting the bullet :dunno:

So it is $79 one time payment for a full year?

As of now, yes. No month to month that I know of - there are talks of a rate hike but as of now that's the price. Amazon Student is something you should look into. Half the price of Prime, but last I checked, you didn't get the streaming services. Could be different now though.
