Any citizens band (CB) radio operators here?

Thanks for contributing to my thread. I'm glad to hear you're working to get back something that was missing in your life. It's pretty easy to get off track but pretty hard to get things back on the beam. :dblthumb2:
 
I fueled in Carlisle and was giving shout outs to you all the way the the 78 split on my way to Allentown. Around 9-ish. Barefoot 29 peaked and tuned. RK 56. I'll give you a call beforehand when next in the area.

What channel do you warm up or modulate on?
 
I think I remember that you said 26. Company landed Old Dominion contract which includes drops at Carlisle OD yard.
I was trying to post the 3400 HP pic that I had texted . Can't get it load here.

Anyways, 55 watt on high power. 4 watt on low. Love the antennae warning indicator, color changing face, briteness/dimmer switch. Roger beep is on point, echo/reverb impeccable.

Excellent modulator for the money. Can get me out above the yahoos and mud ducks out there.

Brought my now well worn spare with me to SC this weekend.

Still chuckling about the cotton picker mention. Only hear that used on the big boy channels. Recent newbies to the industry have no clue...rofl.

In 1992 I bought this cheap CB radio for my truck, really just for fun.
After I installed it I found people talking on channel 24.
For days I'd sit in my truck talking with them, come to find out one was along time friend , my handle name was Red Express.
So one night I was talking with my friend not knowing it was him, I looked ant my meter and it's was pegged out, he was really close to me.
He asked where I was located, I told him, he asked if he could stop by being he was on the next block, I said sure.
Wow, my bud, like what are the odds of that !

So later I installed a base radio in my home, forget the brand but it was the elite of radios, I installed an antenna 100' up, took a lot of guide wire to hold it up.
Later I installed a 500 amp tube amp , it was so powerful my neighbors would come knocking to ask me to turn it down, bleeding over on their TV's.

I had a "Lollipop Mic", one of those tall chrome stand up mic's.
For about 4 years we talked every night, we had so much fun but it was time to more on.
Those were great days for me:)
 
I'm on air most every day now. Heck, I'll even watch a youtube video of a cb conversation if I'm bored enough. Im the MAN
 
Yeah give me a jingle on the land line next time you're in Carlisle and if I'm not already at the shop, I'll run up there and key down. You got it right with channel 26. Me, a lot of other local operators and a lot of DX on that channel.

@Hate Swirls..thanks for sharing your CB story with us. DX land has me hitting Houston Texas and other cities down that way lately. It's a fun hobby at times, especially when there's a prevelant local base scene.
 
Thanks for the advice on lowing my standing wave ratio. I put the 29 Classic back in today only to pull it back out. I seem to have the need for the power of The General Lee.

I was able to DX on the Double Harley and ch.26 with the 29 classic. I was in Oxford Al. kicking it with a hand from SacTown Cali. 10-04.
55 out of N. Florida and Star Child from the ATL regularly pick up my I-81 TX. Never reach out and touch the Fat Man on the Hill, though he is always loud and proud on my end.

My next goal is to build a decent mobile ground plane system utilizing the Lee or maybe picking up a used Ranger or Stryker. Haven't had time to research this much as I've been running Amazon hard.
 
Yeah, the Fat Man has always been a big voice on 11 meter. As long as I've known him he's had a big radio and at least a Moon Raker Yagi antenna running vertical or horizontal.
 
The Cobra 29 has given up its ghost. Will cost more to go through and figure out the issue than what the radio is worth. The finals are still in good shape but no modulation whatsoever.

Bought a Palomar LD 250 FET to run with my Lee.

LD means that it is Low Drive, while the Texas Star 500 was a High Drive. Just have to always remember to switch the low power switch on the Lee before sparking fyuh with the Palomar.

As far as the high SWR that I was reading on the Astatic meter, seems that I'm getting anywhere from 30-40 watts of Reflect feeding back through the factory co-ax and antennae...though they are in place but not utilized.

I get a great deal of compliments from this wolf-in-sheeps clothing.
Oh yea, forgot to mention that my RK56 is one of the original Telex/Turner, rather than the newer Road King RK's which are Chinese knockoffs/remarketed..
 
First try with the Palomar from Duncan SC I talked to triple seven in central Maine .
Truly stoked right now. My heart is ready to jump outta my chest.

I need to keep a log in the memo app on my cellphone. Last major skip was from me, was Christiansburg VA to a hand in Maine last year.
Connex 3600. In the last 200- 300 thousand miles I've made contact SC-CA, WY-KY, WY-NC. Actually too many to list...lol!
