Any Help Figuring Out Proper Action For This Paint Defect?

I hear what you're saying Dave but believe it or not, I've seen rust do this before.

The cleanliness of the area prior to painting is critical. If the paint doesn't adhere fully condensation will begin to form and over time it takes on a capillary action forcing it's way under the paint along the path of least resistance..

Options

  1. Leave it alone and try to ignore it.........that would drive me buggy....
  2. Investigate further and carefully scrape with a razor scrapper to determine if in fact it's rust from within...
  3. Take it to a shop and they'll hit it with a sander and determine the corrective action.. :buffing:
Just because I haven't seen it yet doesn't mean it's not rust. I'll fall into the side of it being rust but will remain hopeful that it's something easier to deal with. I'm never really surprised by the things I see on paint from time to time.

Well...it's definitely rust...I found more spots like this but much smaller by the belt line trim and where it looks like a bunch of rock chips are on the front of the rear quarter panel before the tire...I'm going to guess a lawn mower or something may have sprayed something at the vehicle...

backside of the panel, can't see anything.

lower on the panel under the belt line trim and between the door and the tire.

Around the back of the trim.

The area where it's all taking place.

Anyone have a cost estimate if done by a good body shop?
