I was wondering if anyone has bought or used any of the knockoff brand polishers? They look exactly like makita and dewalt 949. One is american tool exchange and another is advanced tool design. Are these just China garbage? I noticed some major tool brands have decided on cheap chinese labor, so I thought they might be selling the same product under another name. I have a flex 3401 and I'm looking for a rotary polisher.

I've got the ATD rotary.... comparing it to a friends Makita I'm thinking either Makita makes it for rebranding or it's an exceptional knock-off job. IIRC, it was under 100 bucks a few years ago. If I used a rotary frequently I would've spung for the Makita as I'm usually a proponent of buying the best tools you can afford. However, this only gets used 3 or 4 times a year so I figured I'd cheap out. Works fine and has been a reliable tool thus far.

Thanks they look the same to me, I can't see spending $100 more if they are made in the same plant. Ive seen some conflicting stories on other non car forums.

I won a makita $150 and a Vector rotary $25 on on ebay in the same week. Both unused. Haven't used the Vector yet, but a friend also bought one new $75+ for his boat and seemed to like it. It seemed to have good reviews. Not sure where it was that I read them though. Sorry

tread lightly ,,,, more often that not you get what you pay for in life. Sometimes a better warranty of longer durability piece is worth the extra admission.

IMO I would never skimp when it comes to tools, you learn your lesson the hard way in this regard.
