Guessing you're using a free spinning tool? If so get what you can and then do by hand or it is what it is.

Gear driven da would be able to work up on edge.

I use heavier cutting foam pads for sections like that. The thick ones work the contours better.
 
Get a 3" backing plate or better yet, get a 3" machine.
 
8mm throw DA polisher with a 5" backing plate

I had to use a 3 inch on this nightmare of curves! Used the 5” on roof only

I find sometimes lifting a little of top or bottom will get it spinning again. Reduce pressure when doing and I increase arm speed
