Anybody else like hole in the wall restaurants???

Where I live we are covered in 4 and 5 star restaurants, nothing wrong with them, obviously their good as hell to get that rating lol. But theres a few hole in the wall establishments that are just soooooooo good. Like we can go to any big restaurant, get bbq ribs etc, but we picked a bunch of stuff up tonight from this place that has it's own real pit and every, little thing, oh my god I've never had bbq this good. And the cornbread (which I love) was perfect. Then theres another little restaurant near us called Senor Burrito's, has like 6 tables inside, small menu, but the food blows away other spanish places. The steaks are so awsome. Then we have Kyogin, an all you can eat sushi w/ habachi grill place, not expensive, like 10 dollars durring lunch hours (place even got top ratings which is funny as normally you don't associate all you can eat with sushi lol). I've been eating sushi sicne I was younger so I'm very picky about good places to eat it at, even the $$$ places don't compete with Kyogin, I went to Nobu in Miami which is very expensive, it sucked.

My all time place though, closed :( . We used to go to this place Rosies that looked like nothing but seafood was incredible, pry ate there for 10 years.

It's funny how all the smaller, hole in the wall places generally have the best food. Sorry, I'm just in heaven right now eating this delicious bbq lol.

non corporates don't follow "cookie cutter" recipes. They have their own "down home" style of cooking. Be careful though, most food safety issues come from the little mom and pop places as there's no company guidelines to follow/adhere to. I'm food safety state certified and I REALLY look around before I eat anywhere! I especially pay close attention to the restrooms----if they're clean, most likely the kitchen is too;) But I would have to agree, some of the mom and pop places are pretty damn good!
 
Hey Surfer, I would think you would be out partying on a Friday night instead of like me home working on my computer and and going on the forum to take a break. Some of the best restaurants are hole in the wall places. There are plenty of bads ones too but some of my wife's and my favorite restaurants are small little family run places.
 
When I was a newlywed, my wife and I loved to go to to a hole like that called Nino Taco, a "mexican" restaurant in Windsor Mill, MD a couple miles off I-695 on Liberty Rd. That place could barely fit 15 people inside, and the workers were white blondes, meaning, they were not mexicans at all! But, was it good! Only thing I miss about MD...

Where we live the "hole in the wall" places might have one person that speaks English. Without question that is where the best food is. I'm sure my broken Spanish brings about giggles in the back room but if you want the best chow............there's no where else that can come close.

I'm tired and had a bad day lol, had a big project out in Tampa for developer trying to get some extra financing, ended up with some documents that numbers were not matching up right, and then we find out they presold like 200 units w/o an equity take which is required in FL. Woulda been a huge payday but oh well. I had already gotten in a big argument with them earlier on with some stuff they screwed up, finally told them to f' themselves after the documents I recieved were odd. Their screwed anyway with what they did, I hate cocky Cali developers...oohhh I'm Mr Rich developer in Cali but I don't know the laws...LMAO../off rant

Yeh I miss that place Rosies so much, soooo yummy. And they had real Key Lime pie, not that store bought crap lol. And their steamers were to die for, they'd have these specials like 15 cents a steamer, that ruled.

That reminds me of when I had to meet a client of mine in Miami and he took me to some resturant in Little Havana there (pry nobody in a 10 miles radius speaks english lol). I could't even read the menu and they all spoke spanish, and it was fairly good sized restuarant. He ordered for me since he spoke spanish, said you have to try the fish, wouldn't tell me what fish it was just that I would like it. Sure enough this huge fish dish came out and it was very good. Still don't know what fish it was LOL.
 
Love those places... one place is open 24 hrs a day and you have to eat outside. Double drive thru, and very good food.

I think that was probably a puffer fish. Anyway I'm glad you woke up the next morning.

Haha I woulda known puffer, I've seen the shows where they show how they prepare it in Japan as its a delicacy over there (I don't know of any places here that serve it?). They have to carefully cut it or something so you don't injest the toxins, which can kill you. Yeh, sorry, love sushi and seafood and all, but you won't catch a puffer fish on my plate:D . Best part is if you do die the restaurant isn't held liable as it's considered a risk to enjoy that delicacy LOL, though I'm sur ethey could be held liable if like 10 people ended up dieing there from eating puffer lol

Breakfast at "Granny's" it is! And yes, that's a mom and pop place w/ awesome breakfast!

My stomach is growling now.....

Dude you live in Pompano/Coconut Creek right? Down on Federal Highway heading south past 14th (where the bridge is) on the left hand side in that little plaza with the dollar store or whatever it is, theres a little place called the LunchBox that's run by older ladies, their breakfast rule!!!!!!
 
dude everyt time i go surfing in cocoa or sebastian we get done and go straight to this place called dakine diegos, sooooooooo good... they have these burritoes that are a solid 5 to 6 inches thick, and just everything there is incredible. but when we were in costa rica the best food i ever ate in my life cost me about 2 bucks for a mounding plate, and was served out of the back of a truck. total street food, loved it! almost every meal down there blew away all the american stuff i have eaten

The last time I was in Costa Rica you could buy a beer for 35 cents. It's a beautiful place and everything is so cheap there. The roads are not to good though. If you had a sports car you won't be able to drive it.

Cannot place it ... but have seen it prior. Dads the CS Manager at Endicott Nissan formerly Buick/Isuzu/Nissan. (same area).

Yeh our Lincoln Dealer is right there. I actually don't remember the real name of the place, the backside as your going south on Federal says Lunch Box and I'm pretty sure the front side entrace has a different name, I just always call it the lunch box lol. Only place I've been to where they actually know how to make poached eggs and drain them w/o asking, I hate ordering poached eggs and asking for it to be drained and it still comes sitting in water, blah. Their home fries, bacon, french toast etc are so good.
 
yea we found one place that had 25 cent imperials and pilsens on certain nights, and very true about the roads, we rented a Rav4 and tore that thing up! you guys would go insane if you saw the mud on it and how we washed it before returning it( yea it was that muddy)
