Anybody use Nufinish?

Since I don't live in a desert and go to the junk yard for testing of OTC products. I tried it on my mail box last year. Now is this the same as auto paint no, but it is black and its in the elements all day all night. It made a little more shine temporarily it did leave a little streaking as well, not that I was concerned with that its a mail box and I knew it would wear off, the beading lasted a couple weeks tops. Wasn't impressed in that testing method. I had that bottle previously probably for 15 years since I last used it, so the product could have been revised and or no good anymore.

It probably quit beading so quickly for two reasons; older product, and not being washed. Dirt and grime does inhibit beading to a degree. If the product still works, then a washing should reveal beading. Try a new test with a new bottle...won't cost much to try.

Is this thread still going? Are we afraid to bash an OTC product for fear of looking like snobs? I haven't used this product in a couple of dog's ages, but it's a terrible product. Sure, if you're an experienced detailer you can work around the shortcomings of this product and get an acceptable result, but why?

Like many OTC products this product has a lot of cheap abrasive cleaners in it because the average joe who uses it hasn't washed his car in 3 years. Those abrasives are what cause the product to be dusty and to stain trim and collect in crevices. Again a "professional detailer" may have enough experience to mitigate the shortcomings of this product, but he would never use it in the first place, there are "professional" products available in bulk that he would use before this.

But back to my earlier post, if the fellow on the other forum that was the genesis of this thread likes it, let him be. As Mike Phillips says, "find a product you like and use it often". Now can we get back to polishing our mailboxes and other important things?

Again, won't cost much to try a new bottle. I doubt it has abrasives in it. The cleaning qualities are likely strong chemical cleaners and the white stains probably come from the fillers which may even be ever so slightly abrasive. I can't say for certain.

I have plenty of good sealants and waxes, but if I had polished and compounded a vehicle, a daily driver that I wasn't too concerned with, I'd have no problem using Nu Finish as an lsp provided the tape was still on the trim. You certainly want to be careful of that. Again, with all my other products; what would be the point? If the paint is new it should work fine for people. It wouldn't have remained on the market if it didn't work as a good cleaner and sealant, just like Mequiar's A12 cleaner wax...which if I recall also turns trim white. I'll have to double check that though. A12 doesn't last no time, so why use it over the Nu Finish?

I don't want to give too much praise to Nu Finish, but then again the fact remains, based on sales, it must work for a lot of people. The old Simonize and Vista wax don't get much love on forums like these either. It's understandable. Then again, it should be obvious these products are made for daily drivers, not show cars, and certainly not true Autogeeks. Different market and buyers altogether.

Why should he do that?

Sure it "works", as does A12, which I happen to have a bottle of, and I haven't used in ages, because there a so much better products to use.

I can't believe we're actually having this discussion--I guess all we need is Nu-Finish and Meg's A12, let's put that in a banner at the top of the page and shut down the forum. Who, who has spent any time doing this, would CHOOSE this product over something else, even other OTC products?

Eh, I've had enough of this. Bye.

Wow, Setec! I was kind of rattling the can a bit...you certainly thought it was a snake and bolted. LOL! Guess it worked.

I guess if it's not sold by Autogeek it's total junk? Actually, I would say it's a total different market with a totally different group of buyers. That's not to say the product doesn't clean and seal well. Heck, Turtle wax works.

The point is...Setec...

...At least use something on your paint because doing nothing won't help it last. I could care less what product anyone uses even if it's Murphey's Oil...and yes I've seen that too.

Any OTC product sold and used is better than no care at all.

I guess Meguiar's (in fact all manufacturers) should quit producing cleaner waxes. LOL!! That'll never happen.

Where's the fishing emojie? LOL!!

I've posted a number of times in this thread--including I think on the first page, advising the OP to let his antagonist use what he wanted. I've used Nu-Finish, I've used I don't know how many bottles of A-12 and M06, and I've endured 7 pages of "well, it's not that bad...", but IT'S NOT THAT GOOD. Of course using an OTC product is better than using no product, but there are a lot better OTC products than Nu-Finish, particularly if you are near a store where you can get some Duragloss products.

I just think this repeated rationalization of the use of Nu-Finish is antithetical to the purpose of this forum, which is to help people use BETTER products/techniques, not race to the bottom by codifying the use of inferior consumer products as being better then nothing.

And now I'm really out.

In my polite and ever tactful manner...........
