Anyone drive a Kia Niro? Car hunting w/ wife

Well the OP said he needed room and I mentioned how I liked the Niro and maybe I thought the Ionic was built off of the same platform.

Are you set on a hybrid? Cause I'd suggest a mazda cx3 or the toyota compact suv that just came out.

It appears they share the same powertrain.

The Ioniq is one of Hyundai's entries into the expanding hybrid car market competing with the Toyota Prius. Sharing the same powertrain with the Kia Niro hybrid crossover, the Ioniq is powered by a 1.6-liter Kappa four cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine with 40% thermal efficiency capable of delivering 78 kW (105 hp) and an estimated 109 lb·ft

Hope you didn't take offense to my follow up post as I was just trying to clear up the fact that the Niro and Ioniq where two different animals.

Something to consider when thinking about buying a hybrid: A few months ago I read and article on Autoblog, but I can't seem to find it just now so I'll try to remember/summarize the article. If I recollect correctly average gas prices at the time were $3.00 per gallon. The article compared the price of a Prius and a Corolla equipped with the same options. The Prius was more expensive than the similarly equipped Corolla. If you were driving 15,000 miles per year with gas at $3.00 per gallon it would take you 17.8 years to make up the difference with the savings in fuel costs with the Prius. Now if gas prices go up again (which is not predicted in the foreseeable future) that time frame would be shortened. And of course there are other reasons someone might want to purchase a hybrid rather than saving money--- like saving the planet.

No problem, it's all good

Prius V sounds like it would work for you. For the four adults and four golf bags.

I had an 11 and 14 Prius classic/lift back and made more than one vacation with four adults and luggage. Yes i told each person one modest size suit case.

My pops has a Prius V and it had more hatch room than a prime (what they are called now I guess)

It's not a fun car to drive like passion and sporty wise but you never drive it thinking this thing is a POS you just put gas in it and oil change every 10k miles. First two are free. Complete stress free car.

I see nothing wrong with the Hyundai but if it doesn't fit your stuff it doesn't work.

One of the guys in my golf group has a Prius V and you are right it will hold four adults and 4 golf bags, but IMO it is one of the most unpleasant cars to look at I have ever seen.

:iagree: why buy a car if it's ugly, the exterior design is one of main reasons of buying a vehicle for many...

Oh it's no looker but it's functional like all Prius.

Don't know what Chris purchased, but I ended up getting the 2018 VW Tiguan and love it. I really do like VW's and liked the new Tig from the moment I saw it (very classic look that won't look dated in a year), but was a little apprehensive buying a completely new car in it's first year of production. Once VW announced the Tig comes with a 6 year bumper to bumper warranty it was a no brainer for me. Was lucky enough to find the exact color and model I wanted that had only been on the dealers lot for a week--they had removed the shipping wrap, but never washed it or prepped it in any way. Signed the deal on a Friday and told them I'd pick it up the next day, but if they touched it I'd back out of the purchase. Worked out great--car was dirty and had quiet a bit of adhesive residue here and there but after it was cleaned up not a swirl anywhere to be found. IronX, Nanoskin block, two coats of FK1000p, couple of coats of HD Dress on the trim and I was done.

The RAV4 Hybrid has much more interior room, considerably more power, yet still gets great miles per gallon. Get her to at least drive one. Since it's so much larger inside it will be positively more useful as your young family grows. The Kia is a miniature inside compared to the RAV.
