Anyone else just sick of the NFL?

I too have lost complete interest in football at both the college and pro level and moved on to hockey, some baseball, and endurance auto racing as the sports I follow. I haven't watched a game other than the Superbowl in 3~4 years. Even then I only watch that mostly for the commercials.

There were a lot of things which pushed me away from football: the politics, the over-celebritizing (is that a word?) of players, and just the overall way so many people put far too much emotional stock in something which is simply a form of athletic entertainment. The hype is way too much for me. Seeing people put their families and lives on hold every Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and now Thrusday simply to watch games, missing work the day after a big loss, and the level of anger exhibited over bad trades or missed rectuiting opportunities just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn't a scene or environment I want anything to do with anymore.

Here are, basically, my feelings:

”I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live
here in this country...
:
:
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song that I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, hoss,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.”

not to hijack the thread......but it was better...I'm old enough to remember when Bruno Sammartino was the champ

It was even more real back then. I remember Pedro Morales beating Ivan Koloff for the WWWF championship.

Here in the Burgh I hear 1 more Le'Veon Bell story and I will take the Westinghouse bridge...……...

I will watch the E A G L E S every game and I will watch the other games that I want to also. I don't agree with the crap they have pulled but I love the eagles and love football.
Bruno was awesome, I was 4 or 5 watching him and still remember it. Then Bob Backlund. Ivan Putski, there were a bunch of great ones back in the day.
When Hogan came on it got to Hollywood for me. Then the NWO started and it had me back. But, I don't watch it anymore. Football takes my TV time

I find hockey is a lot more exciting compared to football myself.
I agree 100% - give me hockey any day and I'll be happy. I played hockey and football during school years and made the decision that football isn't where the fun and interest is at.

I'm going to a pre-season Stars game next week. I can't wait!

I'm done with the NFL, and won't be buying any Nikes either. Anyone who won't stand for our country, can bend down and kiss my ass!
No offense intended, but I think you have this exactly wrong. One of our most basic rights is the right to protest anything. It's absolutely American to protest whatever you want. Our country was founded on protests. I don't have to agree with what you're protesting or how you're doing it, but I'll protect your right to do so with my last breath.

I'm pretty much done with football as well. I love watching baseball live. We lost our AAA farm team. Rumor that a major league expansion team is coming to Portland. I doubt it will happen. Neither tatted up/pierced socialists nor hipsters are likely to be baseball fans.

I have season tickets to MLS Soccer which is fine. I'd trade those for pro baseball in a second. (The stadium is right in the city, near where I lived. I could easily walk to baseball games after work in the Summer. It was fantastic.)

I cashed out last year I am or was a eagles fan I am 56 and I did not watch the super bowl screw the nfl for obvious reasons. I much prefer mountain biking detailing or hockey use to watch and go to nascar races looks like they are in trouble as well, I hope the nfl follows suit.

Absolutely one has the right to protest. What is being said, is that if one wants to protest by disrespecting the entire nation that gave them that right. Those people or organizations shouldn't expect respect. Things like desecration of the flag, national anthem, veterans, that's not directing a protest in a positive way.

I am forever done with the NFL. College football is way more enjoyable to watch anyway.

I started this thread kind of expecting the political side to rear its head.

Treason is something that directly affects the security of the nation. Still punishable by death. (Rightly so).

Burning a flag, protesting the National Anthem, or just generally denouncing the government do not qualify.

Am I disgusted by these actions? You bet your a$$. But in this country, those actions are protected.

I have a life-long friend who is Jewish, and I will never forget what he said about this same subject:

"A guy could move in next door and hang a swastika flag in his window. Would it pi$$ me off? Hell yes.
Would I demand he remove it? Hell no.
That's his right, as hateful and ignorant as it may be.

On the flip side, would I call the fire department if I saw smoke coming from his house, or call an ambulance if I saw him have a heart attack while mowing the grass?

Nope. That's MY right."

I don’t care for all the politics and non sense. However, I like watching the game and supporting my team. I like going to games. I like tail gating. And I like talking about the NFL teams and games and scores like any good Monday morning quarterback. And I like watching Dallas, Philly and the Pats get beat :). I don’t have a problem w the NFL. If one doesn’t like it then change the channel.

I don't have to change the channel.

It is no longer the channel the NFL is broadcast on for me.

I certainly do not begrudge or disagree with your stance though.

I was a rabid NFL fan for over 30 years.

Just not anymore.

Aren't they going to start using male cheerleaders now too?
