anyone here have experience with dr. colorchip?

I know this sounds weird, but i did all my Dr. colorchip work yesterday, today i saw a spot that i left and didnt use the blending solution. I tried to get the blob off with the solution but it didnt work obviously, but it did soften it up. I pulled out a claybar and clayed it and it looked way better than the other i did smearing and following the directions. I just apply a small dab, much smaller than these in the pics and i dont smear it and then clay in a couple hours. I did this again today to some other chips. Works better for me this way, but that is just me.

I played around with a few tiny areas the other day, and had mixed results. I tried on a couple pinhole sized areas using the Dr. Colorchp directions by dabbing smearing, letting it sit, and then using the blending solution. Using this method I was kind of less than impressed. After using the blending solutuion to get the excess off, I found that it really discolored the Dr. Colorchip touchup and made it more dull looking. I didn't exactly let it exactly sit the longest but it was obviously dired, only 15 minutes since it was warm out as it is plus I only tested on a coluple pinhole sized chips. The only thing I could guess is that I might have over used the blending solution to get the excess off, or maybe my ONR QD mix to get get the excess blending solution off could have caused this. Has any of you all experineced this? Or do darker vehciles need a second application before it looks right?

Yet I tried it on a little larger one using a fine brush and filled it in and let it dry, no wiping at all blending solutuion. It looks perfect and you can't tell anything

LS2,

I have no idea, maybe the paint isnt a perfect match? None of mine look dull. Just color matched puts in the paint. I have a larger chip that I just painted over because it was to big to use the blending solution and it doesnt look that great, but I didnt expect it too, so its all good.

Could there still be wax in those chips that prevents the paint from adhering? Maybe this makes it come out so easily. I know it collects in those chips pretty good. Those "little white specks" are often wax that didn't buff out of them on my car.

I noticed that on a couple of the bigger chips, the sealact did dull the dr. colourchip paint. I'll wait the requisite 30 days then buff the area and see if it helps.

It's gonna be a long month cause the chip is on the back door very close to the driver door handle and I see it every day... arrgh

You could try getting 1 or 2 small hobby size paint brushes and dab a small amount of paint into the larger chips. If it's on a side panel or anywhere that's at an angle, start at the 'top' of the chip so the paint will flow to the bottom. If the paint stops flowing or on a relatively flat panel, put a dab in the center of the chip and gently 'push' the paint to the edges of the chip rather the pull like your were painting a wall. Then let it dry. Having the paint a little thinner helps.

Now I've never used Dr Colorchip but have used something similar & have had decent results that way. Mess with it too much trying to get it perfect and you'll wind up starting all over.
